About the Department

The First in North East established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, in 1987.

An Institute of National Importance -Declared by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on January 22, 2000.

Center of Excellence for Medical Education and Human Health Resource Development- Only medical institute of the country to be declared 'Centre of Excellence' on January 3, 2007, by Parliament.

The department is housed at 2nd Floor of the Faculty Block (near Director`s Block) temporarily.

The objective of the department is to impart undergraduate and postgraduate level training. In addition to that, it also aimed at providing practical job oriented skills to Residents and other medical & paramedical staff.

It also aimed at acting as nodal centre of Govt. of India in the field of drugs and drug related studies, research and training Programmes for the state of Meghalaya and other Northeastern states.

The department aims at contributing fully towards fulfillment of all the aspects of the multi-pronged Aims and objectives of the Institute.

It is also one of the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centres under Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), Government of India.
