ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
The Department of History (Honours) of Kaliachak College commenced its journey in 2006 with the appointment of Mr. Rajen Hemrom as the History Teacher on August 7, 2006. Since its inception, the Department has diligently catered to the academic interests of its students. In 2010, responding to the growing demand for History education in the rural and semi-rural areas, Mr. Ritabrata Goswami joined the College as another History Teacher. Recognizing the escalating demand, the College administration appointed Ms. Moumita Pathak as a guest lecturer. However, she departed after a brief tenure, opting to become an Assistant Teacher at a school in 2018. Despite this, both Mr. Hemrom and Mr. Goswami have been steadfastly serving the College, striving to elevate students to a level where government opportunities for History students become more accessible.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, both teachers have contributed to the academic community through the publication of research articles and books. Notably, Dr. Ritabrata Goswami completed his doctoral research in 2021, focusing on “Changing Boundaries, altering landscape: History of Urbanization in Malda, 1857-1947”, and was conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2022. The Department's classrooms are equipped with digital facilities and internet connectivity, enhancing the learning experience for students. Engaging activities such as historical documentary screenings, group discussions, seminars, workshops, and other developmental initiatives are regularly organized to enrich students' understanding of history.
Mr. Hemrom and Dr. Goswami are committed to student-centric approaches and actively work to address any challenges faced by the Department's students, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
