Submissions open for group art show
Submissions open for group art show
Do you make drawings that end up on your friend’s fridges? Paper-mache heads of Ravens? Photos? Paintings? Any art at all? The Ravens is organising our first art exhibition, and we want YOU to submit!
Please get in touch with us by July 11th to let us know about what piece(s) you’d like to exhibit. The show will be called Offside and run at the Royal George August 14th- September 14th (which means keep your calendar open for great opening and closing parties).
We especially encourage Ravens from working class backgrounds and the Global Majority to submit. If you’re thinking ‘I’m not a real artist though…’ trust us, you are! Especially for this!
The only place my art has ever been hung has been on the fridge- should I still submit?
Absolutely! We want you whether you’ve been in the Tate Modern or the last person you showed art to was your Year 3 teacher. We welcome art from everyone, but especially encourage Ravens from Global Majority communities and working class backgrounds to share their art.
How do I submit?
E-mail thedeptfordravens@gmail.com with the artwork title, size, material, if you’re loaning or donating, and a photo if the piece is already made.
What does the theme ‘Offside’ mean?
It can mean what you like- tap into your inner artist to interpret it. Outsider art that’s been shunted to the side, political art about the lines we draw, or just off centre items.
Can I submit something I’ve already made?
Yes please!
Will I get my art back at the end?
Up to you! Ravens have the choice between loaning us their work, which we will definitely return, or can opt-in to donate it for us to sell, in which case we’d split any proceeds or return the art if it doesn’t sell.
What kind of art can I submit?
Paint, draw, paper-maiche! It’s all good as long as we can hang it off a wall. Photos, printed out poems, if you can make it art we’re interested.
Where will any money raised go?
All art that is sold will be split: 40% to the Ravens, 30% to the Outside Project, and 30% to the artist. Artists can let us know what their minimum price is.
How many pieces can I submit?
There’s no limit at present, we’ll let you know depending on how much space we have.
What’s the venue?
The Royal George! A very cute pub in Deptford.
What if my art gets damaged?
We can not take any responsibility for the art. Please have your own insurance if you need any coverage. The pub is a pub, so anything you’d be crushed to find beer on might not be the right show for it.
What if I perform art?
Let us know- we’d like some poetry for opening or closing night! The pub doesn’t allow music however.
