1930's

During the 1930's the Great Depression caused many people to lose a lot but during this humanity still found a way to stay joyful. The depression was a hard time many people lost their jobs and others lost much more but during this time neighbors leaned on each other often. Many people who lived through the depression tried to keep their minds off those trying times. Neighbors would play card games, dominoes, or board games. If there was a radio in the household people would gather around to listen to daytime soap operas, baseball games, and even horse races. Sometimes merchants who show movies in small towns for free, one of the movies was "My Man Godfrey." this movie told the story of a man who lost his wealth to the 1929 stock market crash, to make money he became a butler for a wealthy family, he ended up saving the family. Music was also an activity to keep their mind off the hardships. In the 1930's popular genres were jazz and swing.

1980's

In 1980 the recession caused many people to lose their jobs manufacturing, auto, and construction industries were majorly affected. But around the 1970's video games became a way for people to have some leisure time. Games like PAC-MAN , Donkey Kong, Tetris, Super Mario Bros were a big hit. Music was also a way to spend your leisure hours, genres such as Rock. Many people say the 80's was a new era for music. one of the well known music singers was Woody Guthrie, many say he is one of the most influential folk musician of the later part of the 20th century. A few of the songs during that time were "Country Boys Can Survive," "Don't Stand So Close To Me," and "Funky Town."

2008

2008 wasn't very long ago. In fact its less than a decade ago, which means the entertainment, art, music, etc. is very similar to what it is today. The popular music genres were pop, country, rock, alternative, R&B, just to name a few. Some of the popular artists were Rhiannon, Taylor Swift, Little Wayne, and Cold Play. 2008 was also the year the iPhone 3G was released, with the iPhone 3 being released in 2007. Many movies people still enjoy today were released in 2008 such as Wall-E, Iron Man, Kung Foo Panda,and Slum Dog Millionaire.
