FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS
The Department of Education Division of Cagayan de Oro City upholds the Department of Education's (DepEd) commitment to food safety through adherence to various policies and guidelines aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of learners. These include:
DepEd Order No. 52, s. 2008
This order mandates schools to establish monitoring teams to uphold food safety standards in school canteens. It also encourages school heads and teachers to promote the practice of parents packing healthy snacks for their children.
DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2005
Known as the "Instruction to Ensure Consumption of Nutritious and Safe Food in Schools," this directive requires that food items sold in schools be natural or fortified to support students’ nutritional needs.
DepEd Order No. 13, s. 2017
This policy aims to provide healthier food and beverage options for learners, DepEd personnel, and other stakeholders, fostering better dietary habits within the school community.
DepEd Order No. 23, s. 2020
This order outlines guidelines for distributing nutritious food products to learners’ homes, ensuring safe practices such as proper handwashing, wearing masks, gloves, and face shields, and maintaining physical distancing during the repacking and distribution process.
The Division of Cagayan de Oro City diligently integrates these policies into its programs, ensuring that learners receive safe and nutritious food to support their growth and learning.
