Microwave and Antenna Laboratory


General information about the Laboratory: According to present curriculum B-Tech (ECE) 5th Semester & B-Tech (ECE) 7th Semester students perform experiments on Microwave and Antenna Laboratory.


Electromagnetic Wave Laboratory (EC 591)


Course Outcomes :

CO 1: Analyze SWR of a transmission line of different load condition.

CO 2: Find the input impedance of transmission and analyze others parameters of transmission line (wave guide) for TE 10 mode using Smith chart .

CO 3: Explain the function of Smith chart in Matlab platform.

CO 4: Identify the radiation pattern of dipole/folded/3 element Yagi-Uda antenna and pyramidal Horn antenna.

CO 5: Compare the gain , beam width and radiation pattern of 3,5,7 element Yagi-Uda anenna.

Module I:

1. Plotting of Standing Wave Pattern along a transmission line when the line is opencircuited, short-circuited and terminated by a resistive load at the load end.

2. Input Impedance of a terminated coaxial line using shift in minima technique.

3. Study of Smith chart on Matlab platform.

4. Simulation study of Smith chart - Single and double stub matching.

Module II:

5. Radiation Pattern of dipole antenna.

6. Radiation Pattern of a folded-dipole antenna.

7. Radiation pattern of a 3-element Yagi-Uda Antenna.

8. Beam width, gain and radiation pattern of a 3-element, 5-element and 7-element. Yagi-Uda antenna - Comparative study.

9. Radiation pattern, Gain, Directivity of a Pyramidal Horn Antenna.

Lists of experiments performed beyond the syllabus:

1. Measurement of wavelength,guided wavelength and frequency using wave guide test bench.

2. Study of field patterns of various modes inside a rectangular wave guide.


RF & Microwave Engineering Laboratory (EC 793A)


Course Outcomes:

CO 1: Find phase and group velocities in a waveguide carrying TE10 Wave from Dispersion diagram [ω−β Plot].

CO 2: Construct a wave guide test bench to obtain an unknown impedance using shift in minima technique and dielectric constant of a material at X-band.

CO 3: Demonstrate the characteristics of a reflex klystron oscillator and Gunn-Oscillator using X-band wave guide test bench.

CO 4: Solve coupling factor,Directivity,insertion loss and isolation of a Directional coupler using x-band waveguide test bench set up.

CO 5: Examine scattering matrix of a magic tee and E-plane tee/ H-plane tee using wave guide test bench at X band.
