DSP Laboratory


General information about the Laboratory: According to present curriculum B-Tech (ECE) 5th Semester students perform experiments on DSP Laboratory.


Digital Signal Processing Laboratory (EC 593)


Course outcomes:

CO 1: Able to analyze the time and frequency domain signals using Matlab.

CO 2: Able to analyze properties of discrete-time systems such as time- invariance, linearity and stability.

CO 3: Able to understand the basic ideas on linear convolution and circular convolution.

CO 4: Able to understand and perform the operations on filters (digital).

CO 5: Able to understand the basic transformation tenchniques and find out their phase and magnitude plots also.

Lists of experiments performed:

Simulation Laboratory using standard Simulator:

1. Sampled sinusoidal signal, various sequences and different arithmetic operations.

2. Convolution of two sequences using graphical methods and using commands verification of the properties of convolution.

3. Z-transform of various sequences - verification of the properties of Z-transform.

4. Twiddle factors - verification of the properties.

5. DFTs / IDFTs using matrix multiplication and also using commands.

6. Circular convolution of two sequences using graphical methods and using commands, differentiation between linear and circularconvolutions.

7. Verifications of the different algorithms associated with filtering of long data sequences and Overlap -add and Overlap-save methods.

8. Butterworth filter design with different set of parameters.

9. FIR filter design using rectangular, Hamming and Blackman windows.

Hardware Laboratory using DSP Processor and Xilinx FPGA:

Lists of experiments performed beyond the syllabus:

1. Verification of Sampling Theorem.

2. Autocorrelation of a given sequence and verification of its properties.

Facility available in the laboratory:

  • In this laboratory 35 Desktop PCs are available equipped with appropriate software.

  • All the PCs are connected with LAN and internet connection.

  • Hands on experiment with real time signal can be processed using TMS Kit.

  • Laboratory manual exists for beginner.

  • Laboratory is open for B-Tech, M-Tech and R& D projects of related fields.

  • Beyond schedule laboratory session, this laboratory is open for practice session for beginner and researcher.

  • This lab is fully air conditioning.
