Advanced Communication Laboratory
General information about the Laboratory: According to present curriculum M-Tech (ECE) 1st Semester students perform experiments on Advanced communication Laboratory.
Wireless and Mobile Communication Laboratory (MCE 192)
Course Outcomes:
CO 1: Understand cellular concepts with the impact of different propagation conditions.
CO 2: Demonstrate GSM, CDMA architecture and GSM handset by signaling and fault insertion techniques.
CO 3: Illustrate about 3G communication system by means of various AT commands used in GSM.
CO 4: Describe CDMA concept using DSSS technique with different type of PN codes.
CO 5: Develop the concepts of Software Radio in real time environment with different modulation techniques.
Lists of experiments performed:
1. Understanding Cellular Fundamentals like Frequency Reuse, Interference, cell splitting, multi path environment, Coverage and Capacity issues using software.
2. To understand GSM and CDMA architecture, network concepts, call management, call setup, call release, Security and Power Control, Handoff Process and Rake Receiver etc.
3. Study of GSM handset for various signaling and fault insertion technique (Clock, SIM card, charging, LCD module, Keyboard, User interface etc).
4. To study transmitters and receiver section in mobile handset and measure frequency band signal and GMSK modulating signal.
5. To study various GSM AT Commands and their use and developing new application using it.
6. Understanding of 3G Communication System with transmission of voice and Video calls, SMS, MMS, TCP/IP, HTTP, GPS and File system by AT Commands.
7. Study of DSSS technique for CDMA, observe effect of variation of types of PN codes, chip rate, spreading factor, processing gain on performance.
8. To develop concepts of Software Defined Radio in real time environment by building blocks like Base band and RF section, convolution encoder, Inter leaver and De-Inter leaver.
9. To study and analyze different modulation techniques in time and frequency domain using Software Defined Radio kit.
Facility available in the laboratory:
Satellite link established in active and passive mode of operation. Also measurement of Propagation delay.
Agilent, ESG-D series signal generator (250 Khz—01 Ghz) used for microwave based project work.
Agilent ESA-E Spectrum analyzer(9Khz-3Ghz) used for microwave high frequency based project work.
PC to PC communication set up in wireless, fiber optics and serial communication in Data communication trainer kit, Using Data communication software.
