The Department of Botany at Atal Behari College, Basudevpur, Bhadrak, Odisha was started in the year 1963  with the Headship of Mr. S. K. Majundar. Later on, Major. Niranjan Lenka, Dr. P. K. Bhowmik,  and Mrs. Kuntala Kumari Sahu were the subsequent Heads of the Department. Presently, the department is functioning with Mr. Bhaskar Chandra Biswal as Head of the Department and Sophia Subhadarsini Pradhan as Lecturer. The department is provided with a supporting staff, Sabita Behera as Laboratory attendant. The department is equipped with a laboratory for +2 practical classes, and a Laboratory for Graduation practical classes. There is a well maintained and decorated botanical garden in the department premises for teaching and creating awareness among the students and visitors of the college.
