Smart Classroom
The Department of Geography is equipped with a Smart Classroom to enhance digital teaching and interactive learning. The classroom features:
High-resolution projector for visual presentations
Interactive digital board for real-time teaching and annotations
Document reader for displaying maps, diagrams, and field reports
Wi-Fi enabled ICT tools to support multimedia content and online learning platforms
This setup enables effective delivery of lectures, GIS demonstrations, student seminars, and faculty presentations, aligning with NEP-2020 and CBCS curriculum requirements.
Tracing Lab
The Department of Geography has a dedicated Tracing Room to support cartographic and practical work. This facility is designed to enhance students’ hands-on skills in map interpretation, drawing, and spatial data visualization.
Key features include:
Light tables for accurate tracing of topographical sheets, weather maps, and thematic maps
Cartographic instruments such as compass, protractors, stencils, and French curves
Availability of base maps, survey sheets, and atlas resources
Used extensively for practical exercises, field survey documentation, and project work
The Tracing Room plays a vital role in fostering technical proficiency among students, particularly in courses related to Cartography, Remote Sensing, GIS, and Physical Geography.
Soil Testing Lab
The Department of Geography operates a Soil Testing Lab to support both academic and extension activities. It is used for analysing soil samples from field surveys and apple orchards, focusing on pH, NPK, texture, and moisture content. The lab aids in assessing soil health, supporting student research, and offering practical guidance to local farmers for sustainable orchard management.
Instruments
The Geography Lab is well-equipped with instruments to support practical learning in surveying, cartography, soil studies, and environmental analysis.
Key Instruments:
Surveying Tools: Prismatic Compass, Plane Table Set, Dumpy Level, Abney Level, Survey Chain, Ranging Rods
Cartographic Tools: Tracing Table, Stencils, French Curves, Rotameter, Planimeter, Map Measurer
Meteorological Instruments: Thermometers, Hygrometer, Rain Gauge, Anemometer, Wind Vane, Barometer
