As promised to you, the nonexistent reader, way back in early January I'm going to try to keep this section updated a little more frequently. How's two months sound? Great!
Some pretty fun results recently, at least. Jayme has gotten an interesting result from LA-ICPMS dating of zircons. How interesting, you ask? Well, you'll have to wait for her presentation at this year's GAC-MAC to find out! By the way, you should attend GAC-MAC, it's a good meeting and it's right here in St. John's, and it's just full to the brim with interesting results like Jayme's, which I'm not telling you about. Ashley is about to get some presumably excellent ID-TIMS U-Pb baddeleyite results from her samples, so I definitely can't tell you about that. If you're reading this in the not-too-distant future, you might already know! How I envy you! Monet is working away on the samples we collected in Morocco back in December, gonna get good geochem and dates out of those.
What about my own stuff, you ask? Thanks for your interest! It definitely warms the heart, badly needed now that St. John's has just set its record for snowfall in a month. A whole bunch of snow days have kind of kept us on our toes, or I guess off our toes as we sit at home dreading the snowplow dumping a giant wall on the curb that we have to deal with. Just look at our snow pile on the left there. But who can criticize snowplowing? Not me! It's an essential service! Where was I? Oh right. Expecting results soon that will relate to topics such as tetrapod evolution, mafic magmatism in, let's say, Eastern Europe, Ediacaran fossils (which we just published on recently in Geology, check it out), some mineralized gabbros here on the island... It's all happening!
Well, that went by quickly. Once again, a few new additions to the Research tab, and that was nice. I definitely intended to share more news, but it was pretty hectic around here!
Pretty serious Teaching commitments this year, plus an additional two BSc Honours Students that are doing some pretty exciting work that I am very much looking to share with you, whoever you are.
Big congratulations to Kaine Johnson on the successful completion of his MSc late in 2025! He's got a bright future, and you should hire him. Also, we're waiting on a bit of last-minute data to get a couple of publications out of his work.
Anyway, I'm thinking of making this more of a "blog" on this site, we'll see how that works out.
New year, new... stuff.
Check out the Research tab for the 2024 crop of publications! Kind of scattered across all those already loosely-grouped themes, but that's how it goes, I guess.
And congratulations to Alyson Park on completing her BSc project in December, it turned out really well - stay tuned for the publication of her work in 2025!
Lots going on this year, might even be more frequent updates here.
Hey everyone! Let's all buy several copies at full retail price!

In which a colleague and I argue that MUN Earth Sciences has been collectively doing a lot of great work and teaching in the Critical Resources space for a long time already. And with some specific investment in rejuvenating our analytical infrastructure, we're poised to make a real difference in critical resources exploration and development in Newfoundland & Labrador.
