Description
This is three different examples of cyber security events that have happened in the news. Each example will have a link to the article and a brief description of what happened in the article.
Articles
The Indiana State Police twitter was hacked on April 2nd. An unauthorized user hacked into the twitter account and gained the ability to tweet which they tweeted out "poo poo head". This is obviously inappropriate for a state police account to post on twitter and if the hacker wanted to they could've tweeted out even worse. The best way to avoid getting hacked like this is to use as strong a password as possible and turn on two step verification if available.
There has been a new popular phishing method on Facebook where the user will get a message on Facebook saying "look what I found" with a malicious link attached to the message that will request the Facebook user to put in their information so the phisher can steal it. This can lead to many Facebook users having their information and accounts stolen if they are no aware of the phishing attack. The best way to prevent falling for these is to be aware of what a phishing attack looks like with any sloppy looking links or any that just appears fishy and ignore, delete, or report the message.
A man from Maricopa County stole the identities of 4 different people and used those identities to take out loans which totaled just under $500,000. Identity theft is very dangerous because someone can steal a huge amount of money from you or put you in massive debt off stealing your identity and using it to purchase things or take out loans in this situation. The best way to protect against identity theft is to make sure your information is as secure as possible and not out in the open and easy to access.
