Educating, researching, and lifelong learning are the three actions that define me the most as it is all about passionately creating and sharing knowledge. As a previous instructor under the UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, I was able to positively influence my students through the sharing of actionable knowledge that I have gained over the years. In my first-year seminar class, “Hospitality Personal & Academic Development”, I ensured that my students were ready for the rest of their four-year academic journey and beyond by helping them achieve the best version of themselves.
My passion for research can be seen by the academic conference presentations I have given in the past as well as the manuscripts that I am currently working on. I love researching about different marketing, information systems, and education theories that can be applied to the hospitality industry. I even incorporated a “Theory of the Day” in my classroom in order to engage my students with interesting phenomena.
My value of lifelong learning can be seen by the various extracurricular activities I have done and the certifications that I have received. The great part about living in the digital age is the abundance of quality educational resources that can fill a very niche knowledge gap (for instance, who knew there were free university classes on Astrobiology, the scientific study of extraterrestrial life?!). I like to learn from books, open courseware, MOOCs, university library databases, peer-reviewed journals, business cases, industry reports, open data, and more. I also like to gain technical practice through coding platforms such as Dataquest and through free dataset repositories such as Kaggle where I can practice data analysis.
Some additional facts about me:
1) I vastly enjoy attending industry conventions in order to network and stay on top of trends. I have been to CES | IMEX | Entertainment Expo | MAGIC | Tableau Conference | Digital Signage Expo.
2) My hobbies include: Hiking | Reading | Poetry | Music Production.
3) I am extremely fascinated by data science since it has enabled the quantification of fields that were not as easily quantifiable before! Some fascinating examples are learning analytics, computational linguistics, and computational musicology.
4) The number one trait that I bring to any team is resourcefulness. If we do not know something, I know of a plethora of resources that can fill even the most niche of knowledge gaps.
