Deniz Sanin
Hi! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of South Carolina. I am visiting the Department of Economics at Harvard University in Spring 2024. I visited the Department of Economics and Economic Growth Center at Yale University in Spring 2023.
I received my Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown University in May 2022. From 2021 to 2022, I was also a research fellow in the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
I study how i) the structure of and changes in the labor markets and ii) laws and government policies affect domestic violence and women's employment, primarily in developing but also in developed countries. By studying the effects of labor markets and institutional environment on women's lives, my research aims to understand the determinants of gender inequality and potential policies to reduce it. My recent work combines theory with natural experiments and uses a combination of large-scale administrative records, spatial data, and household surveys.
