Welcome, and thank you for visiting my web page, where I aim to share information about my research.

I am a research assistant and PhD candidate in the Department of Economics at İstanbul University, Turkey. My research interests lie in the international political economy, the political economy of development and the political economy of institutions.

Turkey’s long-run economic challenges have always been my primary focus, leading me to explore topics related to economic growth and development. Over time, I came to realize that no economic policy can succeed without taking the political structure into account. This realization shaped the direction of my PhD studies, where I focus on how political regimes influence economic performance.

In my dissertation, I explore whether and how the political regimes of host countries influence foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. To address this question, I adopt multiple units of analysis. I compare differences across countries over time, examine the evolution of the global political economy over the past 150 years, and also focus specifically on Turkey’s own 150-year trajectory to understand how institutional structures have shaped FDI flows in the Turkish context.

You can read my preliminary findings published in the Global Journal of Emerging Markets Economies.

In addition to academic research, I occasionally share notes and commentary on the Turkish and global economy on Medium for Turkish readers.
