QTFMS

Quantum Theories of Fields, Matter, and Strings (QTFMS) is a seminar series initiated by a group of mostly undergraduate students from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey. The series was initated as a response to both a lack of seminars on theoretical physics at our department and the lack of support for such endevaours from fellow students. I am one of the organisers of this initiative. 

We believe that talks and seminars are the most essential ways of communication in a scientific community. As students focused on theoretical physics, we did not enjoy such activities during our undergraduate studies and had to do our research mostly by our own. This series is an effort to improve this situation both in our university and in Turkey general. 

In planning and initiating this series, we did not recieve any support from our department at METU. This is the work of dedicated students going against academic stagnation. The work was initiated by my friends, whose contact information is given below.  After obtaining a premium Zoom account, they immediately put together a timetable. 

Our procedure is that everyone in our group invites researchers all around the world whose work they find interesting for a talk. Our current plan is to have a seminar every week. As of 1st of July 2025, we organised eight talks, the recordings of which you can access via our YouTube channel below.
