I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body and Brain, University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
I hold:
PhD in Musicology (2023), University of Jyväskylä, Finland
MA in Music, Mind and Technology (2018), University of Jyväskylä, Finland
BA in Psychology (2016), Bilkent University, Turkey
Minor degree in Communication and Design (2016), Bilkent University, Turkey
My main research interest centres around the concept of groove which has close links with immersion, dance, emotions, interpersonal synchronisation and social connection. I am also interested in origins of music and musical activities, cross-cultural experiences of music and everyday music listening. On my research I have been using (or planning to use) several methods including (mobile) EEG, motion capture, music information retrieval and qualitative.
I would describe myself as passionate about doing research. I remember myself as a child wanting to become a “scientist” one day. Possibly that is why I do my work with great excitement most of the time. Therefore, I would like to share more of my experience as a researcher, hoping that it will inspire others too. You may find such informal and short blog entries at the "Blog Posts" segment.
Other than music research, I am interested in literature writing, movies, aerialyoga, travelling and spending time around water, for example doing stand-up paddling...
