The website is updated daily based on cases notified by health facilities to the MOH surveillance team. It is likely that more cases are occurring but patients might not be seeking care.
As of December 9th 2016, the Dengue Task Force of the MOH decided that not all notified cases would be tested.
Only cases from new sites, severe dengue cases and about 2 cases/day will be tested to detect potential introduction of new dengue virus serotypes and/or Zika virus and/or Chikungunya virus.
Results from ESR New Zealand lab:
- 2 samples have been collected between 15th - 18th November 2016
- The real-time RT-PCR result indicates recent Dengue virus serotype 2 infection.
- 39 samples have been collected between 4th - 6th December 2016
- RT_PCR result indicates 18 samples were confirmed for Dengue virus serotype 2. None were detected for Chikungunya virus, Dengue serotype 1 & 3 - 4 and Zika virus.

The charts below show the number of cases notified to the surveillance team and confirmed by Rapid Diagnosis Test based on the date of onset of symptoms.
Increase or decrease of cases can be due to changes in reporting and/or testing and might not reflect the actual situation.
LOCATION OF CASES on Efate island
Most of cases notified and confirmed are from the following areas in and around Port Vila:
- Freshwota
- Erakor
- Bladinieres
- Teouma
Positive cases are more likely to present the following symptoms than negative cases:
- Fever
- Joint pain
- Retro-orbital pain
- Rash
- Nausea or vomiting
- Conjunctivitis
Most of cases currently seek care and are notified by VCH. The majority of them are sent home.
