Sidetapa Village is one of the old villages (Baliaga) in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province. This village has customs and language traditions that are different from other villages in Bali in general. Sidetapa village is famous for its bamboo handicrafts. Most of the Sidetapa villagers work in the bamboo handicraft industry sector and as a source of their daily income. The typical woven bamboo craft of Sidetapa village started in the Japanese colonial era in the 1940s. Initially, the Japanese taught us to weave bamboo using a forced labor system when Indonesia was colonized. However, after Indonesia became independent and free from colonialism, the tradition of weaving bamboo in the village of Sidetapa has been passed down by our ancestors from generation to generation until now it has become the center of bamboo crafts in Buleleng district. The products produced from this bamboo handicraft are local products that meet the local market such as baskets, keben, steamed, nyihu, and others. Meanwhile, creative bamboo woven products cater to the international market, for example: hanging lamp decorations, parcels, wall decorations, and others. Besides being used as a bamboo art skill, bamboo is also used for the needs of certain ceremonial tools for Hindus.
Developing village's potential in bamboo handicraft industry sector to produce quality products while getting selling values that can reach the global market stage and creating community welfare.
