THE DEMOCRATIC ECONOMIC BOYCOTT
At its core, the Democratic Economic Boycott is a coordinated, community-based effort to use our everyday economic choices to apply pressure where it matters. Instead of waiting for the next election, it gives people a way to take consistent, visible action week after week—something Democratic groups across the country have proven is essential to building real political influence.
As we act, it is worth noting that the consequences of unchecked extremism are becoming clearer—and more dangerous—by the day. We are now in a war with Iran and an on-going military conflict in Venezuela and a potential takeover of Greenland, highlighting just how urgent it is to resist the forces that are undermining democracy and global stability.
Because this is a sustained effort that will continue through the duration of the Trump administration, we are asking participating clubs and organizations to include a short boycott insert in their monthly newsletter or regular member email. We will provide updated versions of the insert each month.
Here’s how it works:
We focus on a small number of major corporations whose political spending or leadership decisions align with policies that undermine democratic institutions and civil rights.
We encourage members to make manageable, personal changes—canceling a subscription, shifting a purchase, or avoiding promoted products.
Most importantly, we make the effort visible—through newsletters, letters to the editor, and local actions—so it shapes public conversation, not just private behavior.
Current boycott focus:
Home Depot • Chevron • Tesla • X (Twitter) • Amazon • Facebook
Your newsletter, your communications network, and your credibility in the community can help turn individual actions into a broader, coordinated movement.
Including a short boycott insert in your newsletter is a simple step that:
gives members a clear, ongoing action,
connects economic choices to your organizations core mission of accountability and democracy, and
helps expand awareness beyond the existing activist base.
This effort is not about where people shop—it’s about building sustained, collective pressure and reinforcing the idea that democracy is something we actively defend between elections.
