Be confident in a decision before you share it with others. If you look indecisive that will cause those beneath you to be indecisive as well. Not only that but indecision causes others to be able to try to take your position. Instead deliberate in private before you make any announcements.
Build trust in your ability to be a strong leader. Let your employees see you work. Don't do everything behind closed doors so that workers have no idea what you actually do. Always be cognizant of your leadership role. Your employees will do as you do not as you say.
Do what's necessary to promote group unity. This means making sure that everyone knows what tasks they need to perform and what everyone else is doing. This prevents duplicate effort. Also make sure each member of the team keeps the others up to date on progress. This makes budget and time overruns less likely.
Make sure that people know that you want the teams success. If your in a position of power some may suspect that you only want glory for yourself. Thats why it is important to do things that let others know you are on their side and that your leadership will produce good results for everyone.
Being a good leader doesn't just mean that you lead others. You also need the skills to lead yourself. Leading yourself by staying motivated and focused can also set a great example for others. Make an effort to become a working part of your organization and not just delegate tasks to others.
In order to be an effective leader you need to stay in touch with your emotions. Do not allow yourself to make any of your positive traits turn negative. For example if you are normally a very confident leader do not allow added pressure to turn you into someone that is overly arrogant.
Don't manage lead. There's a big difference between a manager and a leader. Managers maximize productivity and work on the day to day. Leaders inspire and raise the company up with vision. Its big picture stuff. If you spend too much time managing you'll never be able to show yourself as a leader to your company.
Rehearse the behaviors and attitudes you wish to display as an effective leader in your mind. Try to create the most realistic vision you can. When the time comes focus on putting the behaviors you practiced into action. This method is often used by athletes before a big competition or race.
Become a more effective leader by becoming a more self-confident individual. Research shows that a developed sense of self-confidence makes you look sound and act more like a leader. You can communicate confidence by maintaining excellent posture speaking with certainty and calling attention to key points by adding appropriate hand gestures.
Anyone in a leadership role should be concerned about trust. You must be able to trust your team or workforce and they must also be able to trust you. Try having a meeting periodically with a small group where trust issues are discussed and solved. Look for good articles on the subject of trust in the workplace and read them with your group giving each other feedback and suggestions.
Recognizing those that work for you is an important part of being a good leader. There are some people who enjoy praise just as much as their salary. If someone in your organization does something exemplary take the time to recognize their effort. It doesn't need to be anything more than a simple "good job"!
Be willing to accept feedback. Sometimes employees feel uncomfortable approaching a superior with problems or ideas unless prompted. Make the process more streamlined overall by seeking out opinions and suggestions from your employees. Try to keep an open door policy and be willing to listen when your employees have something to say even if you don't agree with the complaint.

Recognize the employees who consistently do a good job. Don't focus on problems or spend too much time trying to strengthen weak employees. A great motivational tool for leaders to use is to make employees examples of how to do things the right way. If a team member achieved a goal or accomplished a special task call him out in front of his peers and give him the recognition he deserves. This will motivate others to do their best as well.
Tweak your style so that it matches with the needs of your team. Depending on the worker everyone has a different way they communicate their thoughts. If your style is similar to theirs it will be easier to communicate with them bettering your business.
Your actions should be decisive. If you want people to really look up to you as a leader your going to have to know how to decide on things quickly and then stand behind your decisions. People don't want to follow those who are indecisive and wishy-washy. Unless you must don't change your mind.
