It’s important to leverage Canvas effectively for assessments and maintaining accurate grades. Here are some key tips to ensure a smooth and successful testing period.
Set Up Quizzes & Exams Efficiently
Enable Time Limits and Auto-Submit to ensure timely completion.
Use Question Banks and shuffle options to randomize questions and minimize academic integrity concerns.
Accommodations & Extended Time
Use 'Assign to' and specify student to extend their testing window and/or due date.
Use the Moderate screen within Build Quizzes to adjust settings for students with accommodations - set up modifications that apply to all assessments (by clicking on student name) or modify a single assessment (by clicking on pencil icon).
Test Before Launching
If using external tools, verify integration settings.
Use Student View to preview quizzes and identify issues before students begin.
Keep the Gradebook Organized
Enable Late Policies to automate late deductions or assign zeroes for missing work.
Use Assignment Groups to categorize different types of assessments (e.g., Quizzes, Discussions, Homework).
Communicate Feedback Effectively
Use SpeedGrader to provide quick comments, rubrics and annotated feedback.
Encourage students to review feedback and respond to clarify concerns.
Monitor Student Progress
Use Analytics & gradebook filters to identify at-risk students.
Encourage students to use the "What-If" Grades feature to plan for improvement.
