Adjusting Availability (Student Access)
Published course sites become available to students up to a week prior to their term start date and close to student access 14 days after the term end date.
To modify course site availability for all, do the following:
From the navigation bar on the left side of your Canvas course, click Settings
Use the drop-down next to Participation and change it to Course (instead of Term)
Modify the date(s) in the Start/End fields
Click Update Course Details
Lastly, refresh your page to set/hold the new date setting(s)
NOTE that the course needs to be published for students to be able to view it. NEVER click to 'Conclude Course'. Courses conclude automatically after the end date is reached.
In the case of an Incomplete, contact us to create you a separate section within the course site. This separate section will allow you to extend access to the course for specific student(s) without affecting the original setup.
STEP 1: Contact Us to request a separate section
Once you receive confirmation of a new section being created, do the following:
STEP 2: Add the student(s) into the newly created section within the course:
Click People
Three dots next to the student
Edit Section
Start typing Incomplete and select the Incomplete section option when it appears
STEP 3: Adjust assignment due dates and access as appropriate:
Click three dots where needed (assignments, quizzes, files, etc)
Click 'Assign To'
Put cursor in the prompt next to the default ‘everyone’
Choose new section (likely labeled Incompletes) when it appears
Adjust due date and access as needed
