Delta Robotics is FTC Team #9925, an independent student robotics team based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Founded in 2015, we are one of the longest-running FTC teams in Iowa — and the original Delta Robotics in FIRST Tech Challenge.
We are made up of 8 students from 8 different schools across Linn County, in grades 7–12. Because we operate independently from any school or district, any motivated student in the area is welcome — no matter where you go to school.
Our team is guided by coaches and mentors with over 115 years of combined engineering and technology experience, as well as former members who return each season as mentors to pass down what they've learned.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a competitive robotics program for students in grades 7–12. Each season, FIRST releases a brand new game challenge. Teams have a few months to design, build, program, and test a robot — then compete against other teams at regional and state-level tournaments.
It's not just about robots. Students manage budgets, write engineering documentation, reach out to sponsors, and present their work to judges. FTC is one of the most well-rounded STEM programs available to middle and high school students anywhere in the world.
Onshape
All of our robot parts are designed in Onshape, a professional-grade cloud-based CAD platform. Students create detailed 3D models and technical drawings that are sent directly to our sponsor machinists for fabrication.
Professional Machining
Our sponsors Sadler Machine Co. and Amtek Microwaves manufacture our custom metal parts in their professional facilities, giving our students direct exposure to real-world machining and engineering drawing standards.
Pedro Pathfinding
Our autonomous programs use Pedro Pathfinding — an advanced motion planning library that uses Bezier curves for smooth, obstacle-avoiding robot movement.
Limelight Camera
We use a Limelight camera to track AprilTags on the field, enabling our turret to automatically aim and adjust shooting distance without driver input.
Java & Android Studio
All robot code is written in Java using Android Studio and the FTC SDK. Our software includes autonomous path planning, shooter PID control, camera-based turret aiming, and real-time telemetry monitoring.
3D Printing
We prototype and manufacture many of our own parts. This season our intake wheels, turret components, and transfer system parts were all 3D printed and iterated multiple times before competition.
Delta Robotics has been a part of the Cedar Rapids STEM community for over a decade. We staff robotics camps for kids, participate in local STEM fairs, and mentor younger FLL teams across Linn County. We believe in growing the next generation of engineers — not just building robots.
