Co-facilitating parenting workshops is a partnership between Delta Family Resource Centre and local parents with a variety of parenting and child development expertise. These workshops give parents insightful advice, practical suggestions, and methods for fostering their children's development. The Centre uses the vast amount of information and experiences that exist within the community by enlisting members as facilitators. The significance of identifying and utilizing both individual and societal resources is emphasized by Kretzmann & McKnight (1993). Through the engagement of community members as facilitators, the Centre fortifies social networks and cultivates a feeling of empowerment and communal ownership (Stuart, 2013).
The Delta Family Resource Centre encourages its resident volunteers to take the initiative in planning community events, like neighborhood cleanups, cultural celebrations, and family fun days. Community members can gather, make connections, and celebrate their common identity at these events. The Centre promotes social cohesiveness, develops leadership abilities, and fortifies community bonds by giving residents the authority to spearhead these projects. Community-driven programs that encourage empowerment and self-sufficiency are supported by Kretzmann & McKnight (1993). The Centre encourages civic engagement and self-governance by allowing resident volunteers to plan community events (Stuart, 2013).
The Centre works with local community leaders and influencers to include cultural understanding training in its early childhood education programs. This helps teachers and staff learn about different cultures and how to include them in their lessons. For example, someone important in a local cultural group might teach a class on including different ways of thinking in classroom activities. This teamwork makes sure that the Centre's programs respect and celebrate the cultural differences of the families they work with.
