I hope you don't have the problem we had with a batch of four Latitude 5400's. We had video problems with all of them off and on for 2 years where external monitors would just go black suddenly. Sometimes this was several times a day, sometimes it was weeks or months in between. We tried different drivers, different docks or direct connection to laptops, different cables, different monitors, different physical locations and even completely reinstalled Windows, etc. (as part of an unrelated update). We worked with Dell, and they ran out of ideas but would not admit that the laptops themselves had some strange issue.
This issue mostly occurs after updating the bios version or using a laptop for 1-2 hours. Fortunately, Dell has addressed this problem and released a touchpad firmware utility, which will help you to upgrade to the latest firmware. You can download the firmware utility from the official dell website.
