A device driver or software driver is a computer program allowing higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device. For the Latitude 3420, all the drivers installation in a similar manner except that some systems may have more devices than another.

After a clean installation of the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system, you must install the following drivers and software packages:

Check if the audio driver is installed by looking at Device Manager. If you cannot see it, then Install the latest driver update from the Support Site.

What we are seeing with this particular model is the realtek audio driver is crashing randomly and breaking all audio on the machine (teams & micollab mainly) the only way to resolve is to restart. When this happens multiple times a day it can be extremely frustrating for a user.

We have tested numerous theories - testing 20H2 - testing with no decrap - testing out of the box image - testing with older audio drivers - testing with older .net - testing full updates via dell command & no updates via dell command - tested different BIOS configs and power saving settings - all with the same results.

If you are experiencing issues with audio on your laptop, specifically related to the Realtek devices, and you have already tried updating the drivers from the Dell website, here are some additional steps you can take:

Hey I just posted a possible solution. Check your hardware ids for both realtek devices. In my case they were different hardware ids all together so windows was automatically installing the wrong driver!I didn't see Intel smart audio in the dell drivers so I used iobit driver booster to update all the drivers in the system and everything started working fine afterwards I'm thinking I found the solution.

So I noticed something interesting. The 2 separate realtek devices had 2 different hardware ID's!!1 was hdaudio (which is realtek)Another was Intel smart audio. I left both devices as is (both as realtek) and decided to use iobit driver booster to update all of the drivers in The system. Well to my surprise, after a restart, the sound started working again and it was only 1 realtek audio device. Time will tell if this was the permanent fix but I have a good feeling about it.

I have a dell latitude 3420 whereby the wifi adapter will random go off, I have install the BIOS driver and for the wifi driver when I tried to install it will ask to repair it, even I uninstall the driver first(with restart). Even second attempt still asked to repair on the wifi driver instead, tried using support assist to install and I notice it's still not reflecting.

I've just installed ubuntu on my dell latitude 3410, but I cant get the audio working. In the config, the audio output device says something like "fake output" and I see the bars moving when i play something on youtube. But there is no sound. Neither connecting the headphones. can anyone please help me? I've done this:

Okay so I had to press start and search "programs", which leads to a place outside of control panel where one can delete programs. I deleted RealTek's audio driver since it was for some reason a app or something, must've been some weird magic idk (laptops at this point are magic boxes that work idk.) I then had to restart my computer. Then, for a brief second, I had no output, meaning I had no microphone nor speakers. However, I then got a notification to restart as the system was reinstalling Intel's audio systems/drivers. Restarted and now everything's back to normal. Maxxaudio pro is popping back up, and microphone is back as well. Thank you all so much for your help!

@Steven CollierSo far the issue that we are seeing in our own tenant and other corporate customers is that the crash manifests most commonly with back to back video conference calls that are one on one or repeat calls for a group. The first teams call/video conference goes smoothly and then when you are done, initiate an additional call and the person being called can see the incoming call, attempts to answer, and then everything locks up on both sides. The log shows that it fails and causes a reload of TEAMS, but the only way to clear the stability is a complete reboot of the computer. The reloaded teams is still unstable if you don't do this. Teams log also makes reference to the audio and video driver missing after the software crashes, but then the operating system will recover the audio and video devices on their own and works with other programs, just not teams.

@KDubsThis is our issue as well, I don't think it is a hardware driver issue. Although the driver for both audio and video temporarily are suspended AFTER the MS Teams app performs its crash. The operating system recovers the use of the two device back, after the MS Teams program no longer has them "locked." This is something that has to be definitely addressed by the Microsoft Support and soon. This has consumed a considerable amount of time and Microsoft doesn't have sufficient resources assigned to the issue. Even my Dell Precision with a Logitech Mic/Cam attached suffers after a couple of back to back meetings. Do you want to clear your log and post immediately the results of the crash? In the TEAMS icon in the lower right, just right click and "Get Logs" but only do this after you clear them and then do a fresh test and then post here. That should give me enough to continue the process with Microsoft Support proving that it is not just one "tenant" experiencing the issue. They continually say that if it was a larger issue they would have more support calls, but I argue not many people rely on their support and that they are being brushed off by resellers about it.

@simon_bedsysThe version that 100% an issue is 6.0.8816.1 and it isn't just specific to the dell machines. The date on the driver on the machines is normally 10/15/2019. This is also in combination with Microsoft Windows 10 Builds 1809 and higher. It wasn't manifesting in 1803. Some clients were coming up with arguments like "we just got new computers a couple of months ago" and things like that not realizing that Microsoft TEAMS, Microsoft Windows, and Realtek are all independent products/software/solutions.
