One of the skills I have developed as an Applied Linguist is the ability to create original and effective materials designed for many different audiences. Whether is be a material for the purpose of teaching, presenting, or assessing, everything I create is well curated. Read about my materials below:
English Listening Assessment
I developed a formative English listening exam intended for adult learners as a criterion-referenced test. The test has sufficient content validity because it constitutes a representative sample of the language skills and structure that are meant to be concerned from the test specs. There are two listening samples that elicit main idea comprehension, detail comprehension, and third person singular ‘s’, Wh- and yes/no question formation, and intonation covered in chapters 2-4. Multiple different techniques are used to directly test these operations, including multiple choice, gap fill, short answer, partial dictation, and true or false. The scoring of this assessment is as objective as possible to ensure reliability and validity. The types of listening samples are conducted in two different ways: a monologue and a dialogue. Detailed instructions are provided in assisting the scorer in this section to help promote consistency and reliability for these sections. Also, given that listening is a respective skill, spelling and grammar are not taken into consideration when scoring these sections (as long as the answer is understandable).
Listening Assessment Practice Lesson
I adapted the formative English listening exam above into a creative, engaging, and interactive lesson. The main goals of this adaptation were to create a lesson that would help students ensure they received adaquate practice for formative listening exams. The lesson is designed to model many of the techniques formative listening tests use, while also incorperating authentic opportunities for students to engage with the material in order to make meaninful connections.
