192.168.1.1 is an IP address which routers like Linksys and other network brands use as an access point or gateway. Firms set up router admin access in this address to allow network administrators to configure their routers and networks. Concretely one can manage Security Options, Network Management, IP QoS, DNS, proxy, LAN, WAN, WLAN settings, DSL, ADSL, MAC, WPS block; amongst others.

If you're having issues accessing your router at 192.168.1.1 (long loading or not loading at all), your network might be using another address such as 192.168.0.1, 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.2.1. In that case, check our router IP address list. You can also read our tutorial on how to find your router's IP address for more help.

If you want to access a router outside your network, enable Remote Administration. You'll also need to know the router's external IP to make this work so that you can enter that address into the browser. However, this type of connection isn't guaranteed even if the remote admin setting is on since the IP address can easily change (if it's a dynamic IP, which most home networks are).

To log in to your router on your phone, connect to your Wi-Fi network, install the mobile app for your router, then create an account or log in. From the app, you can change your Wi-Fi password, improve network security, enable remote access, and more.

The main difference between a modem and a router is that the modem actually connects to the internet. The router disperses your internet connection to devices through your home and can provide Wi-Fi connections as well.

So, here is the solution:

Use paper clip to hold down the reset button for 10 seconds.

Router Restarts

Use wired device to connect to router at 192.168.1.1

Wait

Go through the new setup process as all of your settings gone.

Rebuild your router like you took it out of the box.

Hope it keeps working (not a lot of faith this problem won't happen again)

I already had the menu go into infinite wait screen and trying to reconnect the IP wasn't accessible. Power cycled and was able to get back in.

All I changed was a device name on the wired network (changed Playstation to Playstation 5 in the description, not device name, it did take effect though)

So.... there we go.

Thanks for all the help Netgear (sarcasm)

The desktop genie, not to be confused with the genie app for mobile devices, is a hidden tool that is a good way onto various router operations. For example, it has a Network Map that beats the browser interface.

This is true. I used to do a lot of field service on Fortinet firewall/routers. After working on those home gear is mostly a walk in the park, except when the config interface won't come up.

I really wish i could console in to this netgear to work on it. CLI is generally better for these things or to figure out what isn't running or why.

If you continue reading you'll also note that I wanted to avoid this very thing with any kind of a solution to unstick the web interface that was permafrozen and inaccessible. The idea that rebooting the router didn't make the login interface accessible is absolutely horrible product.

My solution was dripping in sarcasm but you probably missed that as well.

...but hey, thanks for taking the time to point out something completely not needed. Hope it got you an extra netgear contribution point for your profile.

I have a private network setup of 192.168.1.1I have connected one of LAN ports of this router to WAN port of a second router that I use for the guest router. the second router has IP Address of 192.168.0.1 for the lan side and 192.168.1.156 is the WAN IP.

When I want to reach my guest router from the LAN side of my private network "192.168.1.1" I am not able to do it. I enabled remote management and the ability to ping the router and the best I could do was to ping "192.168.1.156" from LAN side of my private router's network.

For management reasons, I need to be able to connect to the guest router's interface from any computer located on my private network. How can I allow my first router to reach the admin page of the guest router?

I'm not sure I understand the connection of the second router 192.168.0.1 WAN ip, does that mean you plugged the cable into the wan port? If that's it, you have to put it in a LAN port because it's a client of 192.168.1.1 (in dmz I guess).

I have just got a WHW03 3-pack, all working good until the last thing I set, port forwarding. I host my own web server accessed over HTTPS, so I need to forward port 443 traffic to my server on 192.168.1.6. Used to do this on my old router no problem. I set what I thought was the same thing on the Velops using single port forwarding, set External and Internal port to 443, and it works great for accessing the server, but...

My router is at 192.168.0.1 on my network. By accessing that address in my browser I should be able to reach the router admin page. My pihole is running in a docker container on raspbian bullseye and is configured to be the DHCP server with the router at 192.168.0.1

Once I started using pihole, I stopped being able to reach the router admin page. The router still manages all the traffic from the network and the pihole is properly blocking about 20% on requests. I can ping the router ip from my desktop. I simply cannot reach the web interface on the router by typing in the address anymore. IF I reboot the router, I will be able to reach the admin page for somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes, before all requests start timing out.

Thanks for the responses. The exact address is And that works fine just after a fresh reboot of the router for about 10 minutes (like right now). also works fine just after reboot, but not after 10 minutes or so (timeframe is not exact -- haven't actually timed it)

Thank you, tns2 and CRobGauth. I reset the router to factory settings and was pleased to see that when I opened it in a browser, it did not default to "password" or "password1", but forced me to set a password. It accepted the same password I thought I had set earlier.

If you can't get any of your passwords to work, PUSH THE RESET BUTTON (on most models its on the back recessed behind a hole in the back). This will reset the password and other settings to the default. IN somd models it resets the password to the printed value on the sticker. If no password is on the sticker it may set to "password" or to the serial number of the router. On others it completely wipes the password and asks you to create a new admin id and password.

Edit:u/youmas advised me to scan the router address for open ports. I scanned and then u/wolpstold told me to try connecting to the url to the admin panel with the addition of an open port. The url worked and I have full access to the admin panel. The dns was actually manually set to one that redirected to a scam site. I changed it and now everything is fine.

However, my original problem still persist. If I need to access my routers admin interface, then I need to disable all 3 protections for Web and Email Protection, close browser and wait 5 minutes. Then it works. Not that it worked in old version, but with this super simplified setup, I can't even do filter lists.

Actually disabling all 3 options, close browser and wait 5 minutes isn't actually enough. I need to go to Settings -> Network -> VPN & Filters -> And then disable ESET Web&Email. I will enable automatically, but it seems to release it's nasty control of my browser when accessing router admin interface.

Since the latest Monterey update I am unable to access my wifi router admin page. I type in the Main Login address or the IP address in Safari and the page will not open, it just hangs. The WiFi is working but I need to manage the router settings.

Go to System Preferences network, advanced,TCP/IP. Check what setting you have in Configuration IPV4- Subnet Mask-- Router. Write them down just in case. Then go to WIFI and click on your router in the left pane and click the minus. Then click the Plus and re-add it. You will have to sign in again. The Configuration IPV4 is your computers IP address and of course your router address is the one you use to access it. I had you write down the addresses in case you have go back and manually add them in. Then try an login to your router. 2351a5e196
