Career Goal Narrative
I have decided to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. I chose this career a few years ago because, ever since I was little, I have been fascinated by how things work. I would always ask my parents the question “why”; my parents got so sick of me asking the question why " that they banned me from saying the word. My dad noticed my interest in how things work and why things work, so he suggested going into mechanical engineering, but I had my heart set on going to the medical field because of my parents being in that field. One summer in 8th grade, as we headed into 9th grade, my family and I decided to visit the National Air and Space Museum just for fun. At that museum, seeing the way rockets are made, the amount of time and effort that goes into making them, and how fun and innovative the space is, I knew mechanical engineering was the career for
The classes I have taken thus far that will help me achieve my goal of being a mechanical engineer are AP Computer Science, AP Physics, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, and AP Stats. I joined the Engineering program at the Tech Center to help me achieve my dream. Some experiences that I will gain this year will be learning how to make things with wood and how to use a saw, learning how to 3D print, and learning robotics
Some extracurricular activities I have participated in are being Vice President for the class of 2027, Junior Representative for National Honor Society, also being a part of the student leadership council, chair of the advocacy committee within the Student Government Association, a freshman mentor, and board member of Student to Student (s2s). These roles have taught me how to organize and lead large groups, communicate effectively, network, and give public speeches. Some activities I participated in outside of school that would help me in mechanical engineering include serving as a co-team leader of the team fly4acure, which raised over $87,000 toward blood cancer in 7 weeks under the Student Visionaries program with LLS. Through this student program, I learned to problem-solve quickly, communicate effectively, and organize myself.
When I graduate from high school, I will attend a 4-year college or university because I think it is the best way to gain exposure in my field and build connections for internships and future jobs. Currently, I don’t think my plan will change with time. I will also continue my training and pursue a master's program after undergrad.
After achieving my goal, I hope I will make a positive impact on the community, society, and world I live in. I hope I can make it more innovative by finding easier ways to do things while also making less waste. In the future, if I attain my dream, I definitely want to utilize renewable energy and use it to my advantage, so we don’t produce as many greenhouse gases/emissions
