In 1970, Mike returns home, but cannot integrate into civilian life. He avoids a welcome-home party, opting to stay alone in a hotel. He visits Linda and learns that Nick has deserted. Mike then visits Angela, who is now the mother of a child, but has slipped into catatonia following the return of Steven, who has lost both of his legs in the war. Stan, Axel and John understand nothing of war or what Mike has gone through. Linda and Mike find comfort in each other's company. During a hunting trip, Mike stops himself from shooting a deer and returns to the cabin where he finds Stan cavalierly threatening Axel with his pistol. Mike takes it, chambering a single round, and triggers an empty chamber at Stan's head.

The first deer to be shot was depicted in a "gruesome close-up", although he was hit with a tranquilizer dart.[33][37] This was not a whitetail buck, which is native to Pennsylvania, but a red deer which is native to Eurasia. The stag that Michael lets escape was the same one later used on TV commercials for The Hartford.[33]

Nationally recognized as one of the country's premier states for hunting white-tailed deer, Wisconsin has both an abundant herd and a reputation for producing some of the largest bucks in the world. Hunters have a number of opportunities this fall.

Additionally, hunters should refer to the Baiting And Feeding Regulations webpage often to find out if your county allows baiting and feeding of deer. The Carcass Movement, Processing and Disposal webpage also has good information on how and where deer can be moved.

These bonus antlerless harvest authorizations may be filled with any weapon type during the appropriate season. They must be filled in the zone, unit and land type (public or private) designated on each harvest authorization. Bonus antlerless harvest authorizations are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $12 each for residents, $20 each for non-residents and $5 for youth hunters under age 12.

Hunters may use any of their Farmland (Zone 2) antlerless deer harvest authorizations included with their license or purchased bonus antlerless deer harvest authorizations to hunt in a metro sub-unit by selecting the deer management unit (DMU) where the sub-unit is located. These harvest authorizations are valid within the entire DMU, including any metro sub-unit within that DMU.

Hunters may also request a metro sub-unit antlerless deer harvest authorization at no cost or purchase a bonus metro sub-unit antlerless deer harvest authorization. These options are available only in certain counties, and the harvest authorizations are limited to the boundaries of the metro sub-unit selected.

Anyone can obtain a mentored-only hunting license and hunt without first completing a hunter education course. They must be accompanied by a licensed hunter (mentor), hunt within arm's reach of the mentor and follow other rules. Learn more about Wisconsin's Mentored Hunting Program.

Youth hunters under the age of 16 may hunt deer with a gun in all Deer Management Units except state parks and non-quota units during the Youth Deer Hunt. A gun deer hunting license is required if hunting with a firearm.

Thanks to generous landowners sponsoring hunters with disabilities on their land, the Wisconsin Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities continues to grow. Hunters wishing to participate and landowners wanting to open their property can learn more at the DNR's Deer Hunting For Hunters With Disabilities webpage.

Sandhill Wildlife Area (9,150 acres) is open to the public year-round and hosts many outdoor workshops and wildlife studies. This year, multiple special hunts are happening at Sandhill as part of a research study on deer densities. Apply for one of this year's special hunting opportunities at the Sandhill Wildlife Outdoor Skills webpage.

With support from the USDA, the DNR partners with private landowners to lease public access to hunting habitats across the Voluntary Public Access (VPA) Program. Additionally, through the Managed Forest Law (MFL) and Forest Crop Law (FCL) programs, private forest lands are open to the public for recreation, including deer hunting.

Remember, at least 50% of each hunter's clothing above the waist must be blaze orange or pink any time there is a firearm deer season in progress, and any head covering must be at least 50% blaze orange or pink.

Process your deer and enjoy your venison. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control recommend not eating venison from deer that have tested positive for CWD.

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a degenerative disease of the brain and nervous tissue that infects white-tailed deer and other cervids. It belongs to the family of diseases known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) or prion diseases. CWD occurs only in members of the cervid or deer family.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources began monitoring the state's wild white-tailed deer for CWD in 1999. The first positives were found in 2002. While testing a harvested deer is not required, hunters are encouraged to learn about CWD in Wisconsin and stay up to date on mandatory baiting and feeding restrictions.

The opening movement is lingered over; it's like the wedding celebration in "The Godfather," but celebrated by hard-working people who have come to eat, dance and drink a lot and wish luck to the newlyweds and to say good-by to the three young men who have enlisted in the Army. The party goes on long enough for everyone to get drunk who is ever going to, and then the newlyweds drive off and the rest of the friends go up into the mountains to shoot some deer. There is some Hemingwayesque talk about what it means to shoot deer: We are still at a point where shooting something is supposed to mean something.

Prevent the spread of CWD! When hunting outside California, remember import restrictions (CCR Title 14, Section 712) and declaration requirements (Section 2353 Fish & Game Code) for bringing any harvested cervid (deer and related mammals) parts back to California.

The tables below provide a quick overview of current licensing requirements. See the rest of this section for exemptions and complete residency, licensing and hunter education requirements. Licenses and permits for species below are not required for children younger than 12.

Bag limits and harvest restrictions apply to all hunters. A person may take no more than one (1) deer with visible antlers, excluding male fawns (button bucks), regardless of zone, method or season.

However, on some federally controlled areas, including Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge, Fort Campbell and Fort Knox military reservations and Blue Grass Army Depot, a bonus antlered deer may be taken, as determined by the governing agency for each area.

During modern gun deer season, hunters may hunt with modern guns, including air guns of .35 caliber or larger charged by an external tank, muzzleloaders, and archery and crossbow equipment, and must follow season restrictions, zone guidelines and other hunting requirements.

A legal resident hunter age 65 years or older or a youth hunter (resident or non-resident), age 15 or younger, may hunt deer with a crossbow from the first Saturday in September through the third Monday in January.

Adults accompanying youth hunters are not required to possess a hunting license or deer permit if the adult is not deer hunting, but by law, the hunter and the accompanying adults must wear hunter orange clothing.

The first special youth deer season is on the second weekend of October. Youth hunters may take deer with firearms, or any other legal method, statewide. During the October youth-only firearms season, the appropriate hunting license and deer permits are required for hunters ages 12-15. Youth hunters under age 12 are not required to have a hunting license or deer permit.

On the first weekend following Christmas, resident and nonresident youth 15 years of age and younger, who are accompanied by an adult, are eligible to participate in the Free Youth Weekend. Youth hunters may hunt deer with firearms, or any other legal method, statewide without a hunting license or deer permit.

After a deer season is open, all licenses and permits are valid the same day of purchase if purchased before legal shooting hours. If the license or permit is purchased after legal shooting hours have begun, it is valid the following day.

The bag limit in antlerless lottery areas for firearms and muzzleloader hunters is 1 deer, which must be a legal buck unless hunters apply for and receive an antlerless permit in the lottery. The permit gives hunters the choice of taking either a legal buck or an antlerless deer. Those exempt from the lottery include:

A hunter can apply using both a firearm and muzzleloader license; but may only enter one lottery per license. The application deadline is Thursday, Sept. 7. All hunters who purchase a firearms or muzzleloader license, and declare an antlerless permit lottery area by Sept. 7 will be automatically entered into the lottery for an antlerless permit.

3. Hunting is allowed on all privately owned lands in Unit L (including leased land and lands owned by individuals). It is the responsibility of all hunters to obtain

verbal or written permission to hunt on privately owned lands. No public lands or WMAs are open during this period. No antlered deer may be taken during

this period in Unit L. .

The TWRA urges all deer hunters hunting from tree stands to use a fall restraint system. Most deer hunting accidents involve hunters falling from a tree stand. Proper use of a fall restraint system could prevent or lessen the severity of these accidents. ff782bc1db
