My thesis - 'Essays on Policy Approaches to Bridging Healthcare Deficits' focuses on studying healthcare deficits using micro-level nationally representative datasets in the context of a health shock, publicly funded health insurance scheme and measurement issues in data collection. The first essay examines the adverse impact of a covariate health shock driven by the COVID-19 lockdown on household finances and ex-post risk management strategies across different income and occupational categories. The second essay aims to understand how access to a publicly funded health insurance scheme (RSBY in our context) impacts children's age-appropriate immunization status and thereby affects human capital formation. In the third essay, I develop and test a conceptual framework of measurement error using the time use survey in India to understand the effect of respondent’s identity on the large scale household survey.
