I am an applied econometrician. I joined Pitzer College in 2023. Before that I was teaching economics in India for about fifteen years. I am a research fellow at IZA-Institute of Labor Economics and at Global Labor Organization, GLO.
My research lies at the intersection of labor and development economics, and has two broad themes: social identities and efficacy of public programs. The first strand of my work contributes toward an understanding of how identities, such as gender, caste, and immigrant status, influence economic and non-economic outcomes, including perceptions and notions of self-worth. The second measures impacts of government programs, and attempts to uncover mechanisms through which impacts are mediated in order to make public expenditure more effective.
