We are excited to organize the first-ever Deep Learning Down Under workshop. This event is a chance for the deep learning international community to come together with local researchers in Australia to discuss the latest advances in deep learning theory. The event will focus on presentation of open questions, and working groups. The organizing committee consists of Peter Bartlett, professor at UC Berkeley and head of Google Research Australia, and Susan Wei, assistant professor at University of Melbourne and visiting faculty researcher at Google Research Australia.
This workshop is invitation only. It is important to RSVP to give us some important information regarding your attendance.
Arrival: Please aim to arrive at Mantra Lorne by 2pm on Monday Jan 8th for check in if you are self-driving. For those who requested coach service between Melbourne and Lorne, we have some exciting news...you have been upgraded to be chauffeured by Peter and myself! We'll be each driving an eight-seater van to Lorne, offering us the flexibility to organize short impromptu excursions during the week. Please gather at
1030am Monday Jan 8th at Hertz Car Rental - Melbourne Downtown, Shop 3/8 Franklin St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia.
We'll stop in Torquay to have lunch on the way to Lorne. To ensure a smooth journey, we kindly recommend our local Aussie participants taking the vans to pack lightly —this will greatly assist in optimizing luggage space.
Departure: Checkout on Friday Jan 12th at 10am. We will have a morning talk followed by a final working group session. The venue will provide a buffet lunch 12pm-1pm. We will depart at 1pm and arrive in Melbourne around 3pm.
What's covered: Breakfast will be provided Days 2-5 of the workshop; lunch will be provided on Days 2-5. An organized dinner will take place on the first evening.
