Francesco Di Maggio (b. 1992, Italy) is a researcher and digital luthier. He completed his Master’s (2021) in Instruments & Interfaces at the Institute of Sonology / STEIM in The Hague, Netherlands, focusing on musical embodiment and human-computer interaction. His work explores embedded technologies and interactive machine learning techniques in digital musical instrument design. He has participated in numerous artistic events as a performer, composer and sound engineer, and presented papers at international conferences such as NIME, ISEA, and Audio Mostly—where he was awarded Best Long Paper in 2023. He is currently undertaking a Ph.D in Industrial Design at the University of Technology in Eindhoven, Netherlands, focusing on tangible interaction and sound design.
Bart Hengeveld is Assistant Professor in the Making With research cluster in the Department of Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Bart has a background in Industrial Design (TU Delft and TU/e) and music (Codarts School of the Arts). His research interest lies in exploring the role of sound in the design of and interaction with highly networked socio-technical systems. His research is informed by music composition, performance, and improvisation. Bart is a member of the ACM TEI conference steering committee, and organized TEI’16 in Eindhoven.
Mathias Funk is Associate Professor in the Computational Design Systems research cluster in the Department of Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He has a background in Computer Science and a PhD in Electrical Engineering (from Eindhoven University of Technology). His research interests include methods and tools for designing with data, data-enabled design, Human-AI collaboration, and designing systems of smart things. In the past, he has researched at ATR (Japan), RWTH Aachen, Philips Consumer Lifestyle and Philips Experience Design, Canon Production Printing, Intel labs (Santa Clara), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and National Taiwan University. He has co-authored over 120 scientific publications and the book “Coding Art” with Apress/Springer.
