Yearly we celebrate Juliette Gordon Low's birthday, October 31st, as a service unit on a wonderful Sunday afternoon at the end of October. We are get together an eat cake! No seriously, one troop volunteers to organize this event to encourage other girls to participate and join with fun, games, activities, and singing.
Every year the service unit pulls all troops to make sandwiches for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Volunteers of Decatur. We gather at St. Thomas Moore in fellowship to make sandwiches and sing. One troop leads the process to organize the tables and coordinate the delivery of the sandwiches.
Since 1926 World Thinking Day, celebrated February 22, is a day we celebrate International Friendship. Each Decatur troop signs up to celebrate one country from the 146 countries in the World Association of Girl Guides. The girls learn, share, and celebrate these countries with food and swaps (special whatchamacallits affectionately pinned).
