The Decameron is a piece of Italian literature dated to the 14th century. It tells the story of a group of ten people, seven women and three men, who have fled to a villa in the Italian countryside to escape the Black Death. To pass the time, they exchange stories, telling tales of deceit, love, vice, virtue, and of their greater society.
The Decameron demonstrates how storytelling is innately human, as the brigade uses it to entertain and comfort themselves, to cope with their feelings of fear and uncertainty. Our dinner table will serve as a setting for our guests to exchange their own tales, albeit without the looming threat of a plague.
Modern times, for many, have felt increasingly isolating. However, a sense of connection to those around us instills us with a sense of resilience and hope. In many ways, social connection is part of our purpose as we move through life, and we hope you will leave our dinners feeling a bit more connected to your community.
These communal supper clubs serve as an opportunity for like-minded people to meet other people living in their city, facilitating new conversations and social connections through a shared experience. We hope to entwine sustainability principles into our evenings, with low-waste processes and mindfully sourced ingredients.
