Reinstated grading policy:
If you do not complete an assignment, classwork, project, etc. It will result in a grade of 0%.
If a student misses 11 classes (excused or unexcused absences) it will result in an F.
Students are expected to be physically and mentally present for class to ensure that they are keeping up with their work.
Any work turned in after the due date will result in (-5) points per day after the due date.
There will be a cut off date assigned after critiques or project due dates where missing/late work will not be accepted.
Missing class results in missing information and instructor input. However, illnesses and emergencies do occur, and the following are the procedures for when they do:
If you miss a class, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to reach out to Ms. DeBlasio for missed content and assignments, via email, Remind, TalkingPoints, or Canvas messanger.
Arrangements for completing missed assignments should be made with Ms. DeBlasio.
As an Independence student, when you are given access to Canvas, you are expected to keep confidential your username and password and never allow anyone else to log-in to your account.
When you log-in to Canvas, you do so with the understanding and agreement to produce your own work, to complete activities yourself, and to take course assessments without the assistance of others.
Examples of Academic Dishonesty (include, but not limited to):
Misrepresentation: Claiming that a work product is the original work of the student.
Falsifying information: either written or oral.
Copying or partially copying someone else’s work or allowing someone to copy your work. This includes classwork, homework, tests, quizzes, projects, etc.
The unauthorized use of academic enhancement materials including “cliff notes,” study aids, books, formulas, calculators, electronic devices, cell phones, or other sources without the permission of the specific teacher.
Allowing another student to copy one’s work on an assignment or an assessment
Having others take an assessment instead of taking the assessment oneself
Giving other students information that allows the student an undeserved advantage on an assessment, such as telling a peer what to expect on assessment or preparing a student for an assessment in another section of the same class
Taking and using the words, work, or ideas of others and presenting any of these as one’s own work is plagiarism. This applies to all work generated by another, whether it be oral, written, or artistic work. Plagiarism may be either deliberate or unintentional, but must be avoided at all times.
Academic Consequences:
Academic dishonesty can result in the grade of a 0 on assignment or assessment. In addition, academic dishonesty can result in formal disciplinary behavior and documentation.
See Independence High School Honor Code for specific policy and consequences for violations.
