USER Guide

A Google Docs add-on for competitive debaters.

Make sure to configure your settings first (by pressing this button )!

Cardify

The cardify function applies specific formatting to underlined and bolded text, and shrinks the rest. That way, instead of manually bolding, underlining, highlighting, and shrinking a card, you can bold and underline accordingly and this button will take care of the rest.

Reformat

This function is useful for when reformatting evidence. Instead of having to go through an entire card and reformat it manually, this function will reset all the formatting to your defaults, while preserving highlighted, underlined, and bolded text.

Shrink, Condense, Highlight

Shrink: The shrink function will shrink the size of text that is not underlined to size 8. It is highly customizable in settings, and can be tweaked to a users preference.

Condense: The condense function combines multiple paragraphs of text into one. This function is useful when copying text from an article that is separated, and needs to be joined together.

Highlight: This is self explanatory; this button will highlight (set background color) to any text you are selecting, using your preferred background color which you can choose in settings.

Import Headings

This button imports heading styles similar to those found in Verbatim.

After importing them, you set them as your default headings, allowing you to customize them and access them at any time (with keyboard shortcuts too).

Extract

This function will select any highlighted text within a paragraph. It allows you to get the word count, format the text, or even copy and paste it somewhere else.

Basic Speech-Doc Functions

New Doc: Creates a new document, opens it in a new tab, and sets it as your default speech doc

Open Doc: Opens your current speech doc in a new tab.

Send to Doc: Works in two ways:

Speech From T.O.C.

This function speeds up the process of creating a speech doc.

Rather than scrolling through a document and copy/pasting text, you select a bunch of headings, hit send, and they will all be sent to your speech doc together.

That way, you can focus on flowing instead of putting together a doc.

Wikify

This function converts regular headings and text to wiki syntax, using equal signs (=) to indicate headings.

This is very useful for disclosing cites on the debate wiki.

FAQ

The add-on needs to communicate with the Google server each time you press a button. Unfortunately, this latency will always exist, but I will continue to update the add-on and optimize it for speed.

Unfortunately, keyboard shortcuts aren't possible (yet) through Google App Script.
