In 1985 I made my first pass down the 1/4 mile at New England Dragway in a 78 Impala with a 2 bbl 400 that I swapped in. I was hooked. Many cars and many passes later, by 1994, I was running a 74 Mustang II with a hot Lincoln 460. On a good night it would run 11.3 at 125 with the front wheels in the air. On a bad night it would point me at he opposite jersey barrier, and with a short wheelbase and heavy nose was an unpredictable handful! A fellow racer said I had a Deathwish for even getting in that thing. The name stuck and we called the car "Deathwish II". The 1/4 mile fun ended in 1996 when I scattered a motor at 125 MPH, and shortly after moved back home to VT. I built another 460 and ran the car on the street, scaring family and friends until '99 when I sold it to focus on my kids.
Fast forward to 2013. Kids are older, me not so much. Found the "Warbird" a 91 Formula Firebird. Began racing again, and encouraged 3 gearhead friends to come with me. They did, they ran their cars and they were hooked too. We grew from 3 friends to 12 by 2015, and started the Deathwish Performance Facebook group. We now have over 185 members. In 2017 we hosted the Vermont Cup race, and have brought home multiple trophies from tracks all over the Northeast.
Stay tuned as we continue to grow, and are now hosting races, teaching the basics of drag racing, and encouraging gearheads to come run with us!
