Dear My Diary — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 24, 2026
Last Updated: July 24, 2026
Dear My Diary ("we," "our," or "us") may collect, store, and use your personal information in connection with developing and providing to you its products, mobile applications, websites, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
We operate on the principle that your personal information belongs to you. Dear My Diary is built as a local-first journal: your diary entries, moods, photos, and chat history are stored on your device in an encrypted database. We are committed to keeping that environment secure and to sharing your content only when you choose to use features that require it.
This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we collect it, how we use it, and whether we share it with third parties (including Google Gemini and related Google Cloud AI services for optional AI features). Please read it carefully, as all of our Services are governed by this Privacy Policy.
Important about AI features. Core journaling and mood tracking work on your device. Optional AI features — the AI companion chat, journal title suggestions, deep insights, premium voice dictation, and spoken coach replies — send relevant content off your device to our AI proxy and then to Google’s AI services so those features can work. By using those AI features, or by continuing to use the Services after reading this policy, you consent to the collection, processing, transmission, retention, and use described here for those features.
You may withdraw such consent at any time by contacting us at hadost7@gmail.com and by stopping use of AI features. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. Journaling and mood tracking can still work without AI; AI companion and related AI tools will not.
You are not authorized to install, access, or otherwise use the Services if you do not agree and consent to this Privacy Policy.
The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions unless otherwise defined in this document.
If you are located outside the United States, you acknowledge and consent to the processing of your data in the country where it was collected, as well as in other countries where it may be transferred (including the United States) when you use AI features that rely on our proxy and Google’s servers. Regulations in those countries may differ from those in your own country.
Any changes we make to this Privacy Policy will be posted on this page. Your continued use of the Services after such changes signifies your agreement to the updated policy. We recommend checking this page periodically.
We collect the following categories of information when you use Dear My Diary:
Profile (stored on your device)
Display name and avatar emoji you choose during onboarding
Preferred reminder time (stored as a preference; delivery of reminders may depend on device permissions and app capabilities)
App preference flags (for example, coach selection, insight UI preferences, usage counters for free/Pro limits)
Content you create (stored on your device)
Diary entries: titles, body text, mood emoji and intensity, tags, drafts, starred status, templates, stickers, font/background choices
Photos and images you attach to journal entries (stored as local files on your device)

Cached AI insight results when you generate them
PDF exports you create (generated on device; sharing is under your control)
Data sent for AI processing (only when you use AI features)
When you use the AI companion, deep insights, AI titles, premium cloud dictation, or voice coach features, we may send content needed for that request, such as:
Your display name
Diary snippets or full entry text (depending on the feature)
Mood logs and related notes
Recent chat turns and your current message
Voice audio (for premium cloud speech-to-text / coach voice)
Assistant reply text (for text-to-speech spoken replies)
Device and app data
An anonymous install identifier and secret used only to authenticate your device to our AI proxy and apply rate limits (not a name/email account)
Short-lived AI session tokens stored securely on device
Device type, operating system, and app version as needed for updates and compatibility
Approximate network metadata inherent to HTTPS requests (such as IP address seen by our proxy or providers)
What we do not collect today
We do not require Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or email/password accounts
We do not sync your diary to Firebase or another cloud database
We do not collect precise GPS location
We do not sell your personal information
We do not operate third-party analytics or crash SDKs in the current app build (such as PostHog or Sentry)
Directly from you
When you complete onboarding (name, avatar, reminder preference)
When you write diary entries, log moods, attach photos, or chat with the AI companion
When you use microphone-based features (on-device speech recognition or premium cloud dictation)
When you export or share a PDF
When you contact support
Automatically on your device
The app stores your journal, moods, chats, and preferences in a local encrypted database (SQLCipher) and related local files
Secure storage holds encryption keys and AI session credentials
Through our AI proxy and third-party AI services (only when you use AI features)
Your device authenticates anonymously to our Cloudflare Worker AI proxy
The proxy forwards the request content to Google Gemini and, where needed, Google Cloud Speech-to-Text or Text-to-Speech
Google Fonts may be fetched over the network to render app typography
On Android, the app may check the Play Store for available updates
We do not collect data from unrelated apps on your device.
We use the data we collect for these purposes:
Provide the core journal
Create and store your local profile
Save, search, display, and export your diary entries, moods, photos, and chats on your device
Generate local summaries/rollups of moods and reflections on device
AI companion and journal assistance (optional)
Send relevant diary, mood, and chat context to Google Gemini (via our proxy) so the companion can reply in a caring, context-aware way
Generate deep insights and suggested titles from an entry
Transcribe premium voice dictation / coach voice audio
Speak AI replies aloud via text-to-speech when you choose voice responses
Provide local crisis safety messaging (for certain keywords) without sending that path to the AI proxy
Improve, secure, and support the service
Authenticate AI requests, apply rate limits, and prevent abuse of the AI proxy
Respond to support requests
Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your diary content to train our own AI models.
Dear My Diary uses Google AI services through our edge proxy. This section summarizes what is shared, who receives it, and how it is used.
Who receives your data
Our AI proxy (Cloudflare Worker operated for Dear My Diary)
Google Gemini API (Google LLC) — for chat, insights, titles, and primary speech understanding
Google Cloud Speech-to-Text and/or Text-to-Speech (Google LLC) — when cloud dictation or spoken replies are used
What may be sent
Text from diary entries, mood notes, and chat messages
Your display name and recent conversation context
Voice recordings (audio) for premium cloud STT / coach voice
Assistant reply text for TTS
When it is sent
Each time you use an AI feature that requires processing (chat, deep insight, AI title, premium cloud dictation, or voice reply)
Not when you only write or view journal/mood content offline without using AI
Why it is sent
To generate companion replies grounded in your recent journal and mood context
To produce insights and titles
To convert speech to text and text to speech for voice features
Google processes this data on its servers under Google’s terms and privacy policies. We configure the proxy so processing is limited to providing AI features in Dear My Diary. We do not sell your data to Google or any other party, and we do not use your content to train our own models.
Photos you attach to journal entries are stored locally and are not currently sent to the AI proxy for processing.
If you do not want this sharing, do not use AI features, or contact us at hadost7@gmail.com to ask questions about your data. You may also uninstall the app; local data is removed when the app and its data are deleted from your device (subject to your device’s uninstall behavior).
We use trusted third-party companies to operate parts of Dear My Diary. They process data only as needed to provide their part of the service:
Cloudflare — hosts our AI proxy that authenticates device sessions and relays AI requests
Google — Gemini API; Cloud Speech-to-Text / Text-to-Speech when voice AI features are used; Google Fonts for typography delivery
Apple App Store / Google Play Store — app distribution and (when offered) in-app purchases
When providers process data, they do so under their own privacy policies and applicable laws. Google AI services receive the content described in “Third-Party AI Services” above.
Your diary entries, moods, chat history, and related content are stored on your device in an encrypted local database (SQLCipher). Encryption keys and AI session credentials are kept in the platform secure storage.
When you use AI features, the content needed for that request is transmitted over HTTPS to our Cloudflare proxy and then to Google’s AI services for processing. We do not keep a cloud copy of your full journal for sync in the current version of the app.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encryption at rest on device, encryption in transit for AI requests, and keeping the Gemini API key on the server side (not in the app binary). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in these situations:
With Google AI services (via our proxy) — text, voice, and related journal/mood/chat context for AI processing when you use AI features
With service providers listed above as needed to operate AI features, fonts, or distribution
If required by law, regulation, or legal process
To protect our rights, users, or the security of the Service
With your explicit consent for a specific purpose you request
You may:
View and update your profile information in the app
Edit or delete individual diary entries, moods, chats, or messages on your device
Export entries to PDF and choose whether to share that file
Stop using AI features at any time so new content is not sent for AI processing
Disable microphone or notification permissions in your device settings
Uninstall the app to remove local app data from your device (as controlled by your OS)
Contact us at hadost7@gmail.com with the subject “Data Deletion Request” for help with questions about deletion or AI-related processing
Depending on your location, you may also have the right to access, correct, export, or object to certain processing of your personal information. Contact us at hadost7@gmail.com to exercise these rights.
Journal, mood, and chat content remain on your device while the app is installed and until you delete items or uninstall the app
You can delete individual items from within the app at any time
Anonymous AI proxy session credentials expire (short-lived sessions) and install credentials remain only to support rate-limited AI access until cleared by uninstall or OS data wipe
Content sent to Google for a single AI request is processed to fulfill that request under Google’s policies; we do not operate a separate cloud journal archive of your entries in the current app
The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at hadost7@gmail.com
Dear My Diary’s AI companion is a reflective journaling aid, not a doctor, therapist, or crisis service. If you may be in danger or in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line (for example, 988 in the US). The app may show local safety messaging for certain language; that path is designed to prioritize your safety.
