🎮 Steam Removes Malicious Game That Stole $150K in Crypto (2025-9-23)
Valve has removed a game called “BlockBlasters” from Steam after it was discovered stealing over $150,000 worth of cryptocurrency from hundreds of unsuspecting players 💰.
🕹️ Developed by Genesis Interactive, BlockBlasters initially received 200+ “Very Positive” reviews and first appeared on Steam on July 30. But on August 30, the developer secretly added a crypto-stealing ransomware component.
😱 The scheme came to light when Latvian streamer Raivo Plavnieks (Rastaland.TV)—who is battling stage-four cancer—reported losing $32,000 after downloading the game.
🔍 According to malware-tracking group vx-underground on X, attackers used spear-phishing tactics to lure streamers with fake sponsorship offers. “This Steam title was actually crypto-mining malware disguised as a legitimate game,” vx-underground wrote.
🚫 On September 21, Steam also removed several other malicious titles, including PirateFi, Sniper: Phantom Resolution, and Chemia, all of which infected Windows systems.
Valve has not yet issued an official comment.
