Googlechrome Download Master

I am trying to set up a chrome master preferences file so that all the students in my school have the correct tabs pre-opened when they launch chrome for the first time. I am following the instructions, here.

Regarding use of pin described above. I tried checking Unlock with Pin, but see no option to uncheck lock with master password on restart. If I purposely Lock the account, then I can re-open using the pin. But still need master password for every log-in.

However, what I think is a much better solution is to be able to control Lock with master password separately from the Lock with PIN, as they serve different purposes.

i.e. Lock with PIN on browser restart, and lock with master password on system lock.

hi. Chrome browser keeps asking for master password. using the extension. also have one password installed as a stand alone program. i have auto lock in the extension turned off. is there a way of using a pin or something more simple than having to type out the master password every time?

That seems to be working. Seems more like a link to the desktop app as apposed to a full browser extension. Are there any disadvantages to using this? Should I reinstall the extension when it works better ie unlock with a pin or something rather than having to type out the full master password every time. Thanks.

I'm trying to programmatically disable password saving for Chrome, and my search has lead me to the master_preferences file. However, I can't seem to find any "master" list of every possible configuration item.

Review the available distribution settings. These are properties of a distribution object, which is contained within the anonymous object in the master_preferences file. I had been able to play master quality audio (MQA) tracks within the Tidal app until recently. When I reached out to Tidal for support, they replied that Chromecast with Google TV no longer supports MQA. Is that accurate? If so, why are features for Chromecast with Google TV being removed?

It seems that neither Google or Tidal want to let us know exactly what the problem is. Playing in master quality works fine from the Android app but casting from my phone or tablet to either Mibox or my brand new TCL Android TV, it always drops to Hifi.

Google Chrome comes with a master_preferences file. This file contains the default Chrome settings. This file can be modified by the administrator to make sure settings are available after installation. By default, the master_preferences file is located in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application.

On non-persistent machines, Chrome should not be allowed to update itself automatically. Installing updates should only be allowed when modifying or creating the master image or when updating the application layer (Citrix App Layering). To disable automatic updates, proceed as follows:

Policies take precedence to preferences and preferences take precedence torecommended policies. If "homepage" is specified in both the policies, and inthe "master_preferences" file, policies will always override.

Prefer policies to configure Chrome on managed computers. Use recommendedpolicies for settings that users should be able to change, and use mandatorypolicies for settings that users should not be able to change. Moreover, you'll notice that some of these preferences are managed by policy.Note that no matter what is in the master_preferences or Preferences files,policy always takes precedence. Setting the home page in both the Preferencesfile and policy means that the home page in policy will be the one that Chromium/ Google Chrome uses, and the user will not be able to edit it.

May 19, 2010 Master passwords for browsers provide a measure of security against somecommon, if weak, attack vectors. Firefox has had master passwords forsome time, but Google's Chrome browser does not, nor does it seem to haveany kind of priority to be added. That makes some users rather unhappy, tothe point of saying that they won't use the browser until it isimplemented. Google's position seems to be that master passwords onlyprovide an illusion of security, but that is an oversimplification.

The point about memory dump is true. But I don't see *any* way to avoid that risk, even if I typed all the passwords manually.

It's the user's responsibility to make sure that they trust the folks who use their box, plain and simple. If you [the software developer] really, really, _really_ want to shield fools from themselves, then build in "keychain" functionality but just disable it by default. Why deprive sane users of a feature just because some users can't figure out how to use it in a safe, effective manner?

Chrome's stance is like the Linux kernel developers deciding to strip out swap support because some folks could use a laptop with an unencrypted swap partition.

Chrome doesn't do RAID, it doesn't do tape backups, it doesn't patch the OS with updates. Such services and tasks are clearly something else's problem.

Disk encryption exists, if currently unusual. Locking screensavers are everywhere, if not always used.

Users have the ability, today, to protect against the attacks that a browser master lock also provide.

A browser master lock is:

- not going to be as effective (system based security would both protect against more things, and likely be technically better as its importance would get it more attention from devs and testers)

- be annoying to those using other locks (I hate the gnome keyring thing, for example. I just logged in to my account, and you want me to log in again?)

The criteria is that the first kind of line is staffed by

people with a radio, to tell the folks managing the whole

mess that they've encountered the enemy, and in what strength.

In our case, one might do a logical variant: provide a master

password mechanism, and use "not unlocked" as a warning to other

security mechanisms that the owner thinks they're NOT doing

something insecure.

That will definitely catch "probing" attacks, just like a "tripwire"

defense line does.

Have a look at And correspondingly, tend to avoid the problem of browser-stored passwords by using a program on my PDA for storing passwords in a database encrypted with a single password. It's not integrated into my laptop, much less my browser, so I wind up having to type my passwords into the browser. It's not convenient, but I've never really trusted that the appropriately crafted javascript won't be able to read any arbitrary file my login account has permission to read and send it off to some random website.I don't trust Firefox's security model. Javascript is used both by plugins which can do anything they like, and by websites which supposedly can't, based on complicated sandboxing techniques. I highly doubt that the sandboxing is perfect. on ubuntu this is very easy. click the session menu (the one with log out and shutdown), and choose guest session. it creates a guest user, with limited privileges (eg. they can only read a small white list of the filesystem), and logs them into an X session. when they log out it deletes their temporary home folder. it is pretty hard for them to do anything bad from it.

i guess other distros must have similar features.
