Welcome to DeadHang ("the App," "we," "us," or "our"). DeadHang is a standalone Apple Watch application designed to help you track and improve your dead hang workouts. The App measures hang duration using on-device motion sensors, optionally records heart rate data through Apple HealthKit, and provides detailed on-device analytics including performance trends, goal tracking, recovery recommendations, and session analysis.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have regarding your data. By downloading, installing, or using DeadHang, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
Privacy at a Glance
DeadHang is a privacy-first, local-only application. All of your workout data and analytics are processed and stored entirely on your Apple Watch. We do not operate servers, collect personal data remotely, or transmit your information to any third party. The only network communication the App performs is through Apple's StoreKit framework for optional in-app subscription purchases.
DeadHang does not collect, request, or store any personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, or other contact details. No account creation or sign-in is required to use the App.
With your explicit permission, DeadHang may access the following data from Apple HealthKit:
Heart Rate – Read during workouts to display live heart rate and compute heart rate analytics (average, min/max, zone distribution).
Workout Data – The App writes completed dead hang workout sessions to HealthKit, including start/end time, elapsed duration, and heart rate range.
DeadHang does not access steps, sleep, body measurements, nutrition, or any other HealthKit data types beyond heart rate and workout records.
When you complete a dead hang, the App stores a workout log on your Apple Watch containing:
Session start and end timestamps
Elapsed duration (seconds)
Minimum and maximum heart rate (if heart rate access is granted)
Goal duration and whether the goal was reached
A unique identifier for the workout record
DeadHang computes a broad set of analytics from your workout logs, all processed and stored entirely on your Apple Watch:
Personal best, average, and median hang duration
Performance trends, velocity, and training phase classification
Consistency scores, plateau detection, and distribution histograms
Recovery recommendations and overtraining risk indicators (ACWR)
Heart rate zone distribution and session fatigue analysis
Goal achievement history and adaptive goal projections
Monthly aggregates and cumulative progress
DeadHang does not collect or transmit device identifiers, model information, operating system version, or hardware specifications. The App reads the device's wrist location and Digital Crown orientation solely to calibrate motion detection thresholds; this information is not stored or shared.
DeadHang does not integrate any third-party analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry SDKs. The App does not collect app usage patterns, screen views, interaction events, or crash reports. Diagnostic logging exists only for on-device debugging and is never transmitted.
DeadHang does not request, access, or store your location in any form. The App does not use GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular, or Bluetooth-based location services.
DeadHang does not support notes, text entries, photos, voice recordings, or any other user-generated content. All data in the App is automatically generated from your workouts.
DeadHang offers an optional "Analytics Pro" subscription processed entirely through Apple's App Store and StoreKit framework. We do not have access to your payment method, billing address, Apple ID, or any financial information. Apple manages all subscription billing, renewal, and cancellation.
* Workout sessions written to HealthKit are subject to Apple's own HealthKit data policies and may sync across your devices via iCloud if you have HealthKit sync enabled in your Apple account settings. This is managed by Apple, not by DeadHang.

DeadHang does not share, sell, rent, trade, or disclose your personal information or workout data to any third party. Because all data is processed and stored locally on your Apple Watch, there is no server-side data to share.
The following interactions with Apple services occur during normal App use:
Apple HealthKit – If you grant permission, workout data is written to the system Health store, which is managed by Apple under its own Privacy Policy. HealthKit data may sync to your other Apple devices via iCloud per your settings.
Apple StoreKit / App Store – Subscription purchases and verification are processed by Apple. We have no access to your payment details or Apple ID.
DeadHang does not use any third-party service providers, analytics platforms, cloud storage services, ad networks, or crash reporting tools.
Because we do not collect or possess any personal data on servers, we have no data to disclose in response to legal requests. In the unlikely event that we are legally compelled to respond to a valid legal process, we would only provide information we actually possess, which is limited to the information described in this policy.
We do not collect aggregated or anonymized data from users. All analytics remain on your device.
You may choose to export your workout data as CSV files. Once exported, the data leaves the App and is under your control. We are not responsible for how you store, share, or transmit exported data.
All App data is stored locally on your Apple Watch in the App's sandboxed container:
Workout logs – SQLite database with WAL journaling mode enabled for data integrity and crash resilience
Analytics snapshots – JSON files with 90-day detailed retention; older snapshots are pruned to one per month
User preferences – Apple's UserDefaults (e.g., rest timer duration, language, goal settings)
Exported files – Temporary CSV and ZIP files stored in the App's sandboxed documents directory
App Sandbox – watchOS enforces strict app sandboxing, preventing other apps from accessing DeadHang's data
Device Encryption – All data at rest is protected by Apple's hardware-level encryption (Data Protection). When your Apple Watch is locked with a passcode, your data is encrypted
HealthKit Isolation – HealthKit data is stored in an encrypted database managed by Apple, separate from the App's container, and protected by additional access controls
No Network Transmission – Because no data leaves your device (except through Apple's StoreKit and HealthKit as described above), there is no risk of data interception in transit
SQLite Transaction Safety – Database writes use transactions with rollback support to prevent data corruption
Data Type and Retention Period
Workout logs: Retained indefinitely until you delete the App
Analytics snapshots (detailed): 90 days
Analytics snapshots (monthly summary): Retained indefinitely
Goal achievement events: Last 200 events (rolling)
Motion sensor data: Not retained (real-time only)
Exported CSV/ZIP files: Until manually deleted or overwritten by a new export
User preferences: Retained until you reset settings or delete the App
You may delete all DeadHang data at any time by uninstalling the App from your Apple Watch. Uninstalling removes all locally stored data, including workout logs, analytics, preferences, and exported files. Workout sessions previously written to HealthKit can be deleted separately through the Apple Health app.
You maintain full control over HealthKit permissions at all times:
Grant or deny heart rate reading and workout writing permissions when prompted
Revoke permissions at any time via Settings → Health → DeadHang on your Apple Watch or iPhone
The App will continue to function as a timer if all HealthKit permissions are revoked
On-device analytics computation can be toggled via the App's settings. Disabling analytics does not delete existing data but stops new analytics from being generated.
You can access and export all of your workout data at any time using the built-in export feature, which generates CSV files containing your complete workout history. This supports your right to data portability.
To delete all data, uninstall the App. Because all data is stored locally on your device and we do not maintain any server-side copies, uninstallation constitutes complete data deletion from our perspective.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
Access – View all data the App stores about you (available through the App's export feature and on-screen analytics)
Rectification – Because data is automatically generated from your workouts, manual correction is not applicable; however, you may delete and re-record workouts
Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") – Delete all data by uninstalling the App
Data Portability – Export your data in CSV format at any time
Restriction of Processing – Disable analytics in settings to restrict data processing
Object to Processing – Because data processing is entirely local and necessary for the App's functionality, there is no profiling or automated decision-making that affects you beyond the App
Legal Basis for Processing: We process your data based on (a) your explicit consent (HealthKit permission grants), (b) contractual necessity (providing the core workout tracking functionality you requested by installing and using the App), and (c) legitimate interest (computing on-device analytics to improve your fitness experience).
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Know what personal information is collected – DeadHang does not collect personal information as defined by the CCPA
Delete your data – Uninstall the App
Opt-out of sale – We do not sell personal information
Non-discrimination – We do not discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights
DeadHang does not track users across apps or websites. The App does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals because it does not perform any tracking.
DeadHang is a general-audience fitness application. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). Because the App does not collect any personal information, create user accounts, or transmit data off-device, there is minimal risk to minors.
Parents and guardians should be aware that the App uses motion sensors and may access HealthKit data if permission is granted. We recommend that parents supervise HealthKit permission decisions for minors.
We comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provisions for minors, and other applicable child privacy laws. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to address the concern.
DeadHang does not contain links to third-party websites, embed third-party content, or integrate with third-party APIs or services. The only external integrations are with Apple's own system frameworks:
Apple HealthKit – For heart rate data and workout recording
Apple StoreKit – For in-app subscription purchases
Apple CoreMotion – For motion sensor data
Apple AVFoundation – For workout audio cues
These are first-party Apple frameworks governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review Apple's privacy practices.
DeadHang is available on the Apple App Store worldwide and supports 35 languages. Because all data processing occurs locally on your Apple Watch, your data is not transferred to any servers, domestic or international. There is no cross-border data transfer by the App.
We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation. Because DeadHang processes data solely on your device, no Data Processing Agreement (DPA) or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) are required. See Section 6.5 for your specific GDPR rights.
We comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act. DeadHang does not sell personal information. See Section 6.6 for your specific CCPA rights.
We comply with Brazil's Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados. All data processing is local and consent-based. You may exercise your data rights as described in Section 6.
We comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. DeadHang processes data only with your consent and for the purposes described in this policy.
We comply with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act. All data remains on your device and is processed solely for the purposes you consent to.
Regardless of your location, DeadHang's privacy-first, local-only architecture ensures that your data remains under your control on your device. We strive to comply with applicable privacy laws in all jurisdictions where the App is available.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App's functionality, legal requirements, or our practices. When we make changes:
The "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy will be revised
Material changes will be communicated through the App's release notes on the App Store
The updated policy will be accessible within the App and on our App Store listing
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of DeadHang after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the App's privacy practices, please contact us:
Email: deadhang_dev@proton.me
We will respond to privacy-related inquiries within 30 days. For requests related to GDPR, CCPA, or other data protection regulations, we will acknowledge your request within the timeframes required by applicable law.
In accordance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines and App Store Review Guidelines (Section 5.1.3):
DeadHang does not store HealthKit data in iCloud or any third-party cloud service
HealthKit data is never used for advertising or user profiling
HealthKit data is never shared with or sold to third parties, including data brokers or information resellers
HealthKit data is used solely for providing health and fitness functionality directly to the user
The App requests only the minimum HealthKit data types necessary for its functionality (heart rate and workouts)
HealthKit authorization is requested with clear usage descriptions explaining why each permission is needed
DeadHang uses CoreMotion to detect arm position during dead hang workouts. Motion data is processed in real time and never stored or transmitted. On watchOS, CoreMotion access does not require a separate user permission prompt; however, the App uses motion data solely for the purpose of detecting arm position during active workouts.
The App uses the workout-processing background mode to maintain accurate workout timing when the Apple Watch display is off. Background HealthKit delivery is enabled to receive heart rate updates during active workout sessions. No background processing occurs outside of active workouts.
In accordance with Apple's App Privacy requirements, DeadHang's App Store privacy details accurately reflect the following:
