Dead Chat is a direct device-to-device messaging application designed to allow two people to communicate over the internet without using a central third-party chat server.
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information Dead Chat handles, how it is used, how it is protected, and what happens to it when a chat is destroyed or expires.
By using Dead Chat, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy.
Dead Chat is designed to operate without requiring users to register an account, provide a phone number, submit an email address, or provide their real names.
Depending on how you use the application, the following information may be handled:
a. Display names
Dead Chat uses display names to distinguish participants in a conversation. A random five-digit number is appended to the display name. This is used for identification within the chat interface and is not intended to reveal your real identity.
b. Chat messages
Text messages are transmitted directly between the two participating devices and stored in encrypted, application-private storage on the hosting device while the chat is active.
c. Images
Users may choose images from their device to send in a conversation. Images are transferred directly between participants and stored in encrypted, application-private storage while the chat is active.
Images are intended to remain accessible only through the Dead Chat interface and are not intentionally saved to the device's public gallery.
d. Invitation and session information
Dead Chat uses invitation codes and technical session information to establish and maintain a connection between the two participants. Certain technical identifiers may be processed internally to distinguish and authenticate participants and manage the connection. These identifiers are not displayed as users' public identities.
e. Network information
Because Dead Chat connects devices directly over the internet, network information such as IP addresses may be visible to the participating devices and the network providers involved in the connection. This is inherent in direct internet communication.
Dead Chat does not operate a central server to collect or store users' chat conversations.
Information handled by Dead Chat is used only to provide the application's core functions, including:
Establishing direct connections between two participants.
Creating and joining private chat sessions.
Identifying participants within a conversation.
Transmitting text messages and image attachments.
Maintaining the active chat session.
Enforcing invitation-code and session restrictions.
Applying automatic inactivity expiry and chat destruction.
Dead Chat is not designed to use chat messages or images for advertising, behavioural profiling, or marketing.
Dead Chat is designed to establish communication directly between the Host device and the Joiner device.
The application does not intentionally route chat messages or images through a central third-party chat server or cloud messaging platform.
However, direct connectivity may not always be possible. Network restrictions, carrier configurations, firewalls, or other connection limitations may prevent two devices from connecting.
Internet and network service providers may independently process connection information under their own privacy policies.
Active chat information is stored in encrypted, application-private storage on the Host device.
Dead Chat is designed to:
Keep active chat data within the application's private storage.
Restrict access to chat content through the Dead Chat interface.
Prevent ordinary Android screenshots and screen recordings within protected app screens where supported.
Avoid intentionally saving chat images to public gallery folders.
Avoid displaying technical device identifiers to other participants.
No digital storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should understand that screenshots or recordings may still be possible through external cameras, modified devices, or other methods outside the application's control.
Dead Chat is designed around temporary conversations.
A chat is automatically destroyed after 20 minutes without meaningful activity. Sending or receiving a valid text message or image counts as meaningful activity. Merely viewing the conversation, typing, scrolling, or maintaining a network connection does not reset the inactivity period.
Users may also manually select the Destroy Chat function to end a conversation.
When a chat is destroyed, Dead Chat attempts to remove the associated local chat information, including:
Text messages.
Image attachments and thumbnails.
Temporary chat files and cached content.
Session and invitation information.
Associated encryption keys and other locally stored session data.
If the other participant is connected, the application may send a destruction instruction to that device.
Important: If the other participant is offline or unreachable, Dead Chat cannot guarantee that their device receives the destruction instruction immediately. The application is designed to perform cleanup when it next runs, subject to Android operating-system limitations.
Dead Chat cannot guarantee the removal of information that another participant may have independently captured, copied, or recorded outside the application's control.
Dead Chat does not sell users' personal information.
The application is not designed to share chat messages or image attachments with advertisers, analytics companies, or third-party chat hosting services.
Chat content is transmitted to the other participant as part of the communication feature.
Internet service providers and network operators may process technical connection information as part of providing internet connectivity.
Dead Chat is intended to remain free to use and does not display advertisements.
The application may provide an optional Bitcoin tip address for users who voluntarily wish to support its development. Tips are voluntary and do not unlock additional application features or benefits.
Bitcoin transactions are processed through the user's chosen wallet and the Bitcoin network, not through a Dead Chat payment-processing server. Blockchain transactions may be publicly visible.
Dead Chat may require internet access to establish direct connections and exchange messages.
When a user chooses to attach an image, the application uses Android's image selection functionality to allow the user to select an image.
Permissions and access are intended to be limited to what is necessary for the application's functionality.
Dead Chat is not specifically designed to collect personal information from children.
The application does not require account registration or the submission of personal details to use its core chat functionality.
If you believe that information relating to a child has been improperly collected, please contact the developer using the contact information below.
Dead Chat is designed not to rely on third-party chat servers, advertising networks, or push-notification services.
Android, internet service providers, device manufacturers, and any external services a user independently chooses to use may operate under their own privacy policies.
Any future integration that changes how user information is collected, processed, or shared will require this Privacy Policy to be reviewed and updated.
This Privacy Policy may be updated when application features, security practices, or applicable requirements change.
Any revised version will be published at the privacy policy web address associated with Dead Chat. The effective date at the top of the policy will be updated accordingly.
Users are encouraged to review the policy periodically.
