A Digital Cinema Package or DCP Format is a collection of digital video and audio or Image files in a folder coded that you want to store and convey digital cinema audio, image, and data Hard Drive streams.
The term was in early days famous by Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC in its original recommendation for Grouping DC contents. However, the industry tends to use the term to the structure more formally referred to as the composition. A DCP may be a “collectively coded files” for compositions, a hierarchical file structure that represents a title version. The DCP may carry a half composition , one complete composition, or multiple content and complete compositions.
The composition cantains of a Composition Playlistknown that defines the playback sequence of a group of Track video and audio Files. Track Files carry the essence, which is wrapped or pack using Material eXchange Format (MXF). Two files at a initial level must be present in every composition and package - DCP Constraints, or Cinepedia): a track file carrying picture essence, and a track file carrying audio essence. The composition, consisting of a Composition Playlist and associated track files with coding, are distributed as a Digital Cinema Package (DCP). It must be underscored that a composition may be a complete representation of a title version of that video, while the DCP needn't carry a full composition. However, as already noted, it's commonplace within the industry to debate the title in terms of a DCP, as that's the deliverable to the cinema.
The Picture Track File is compressed using JPEG 2000 video format and therefore the Audio Track File carries a 24-bit linear PCM uncompressed audio multichannel WAV file. Encryption may either be applied to the essence of a track file to guard it from unauthorized use. its also known as DCP format
In practice, there are more versions of composition in daily use. the first and commonly used version is named Interop DCP.
