Victor Castro

The guitarist, arranger and composer Victor Castro was born in Angra do Heroísmo, Azores (Portugal). He studied with Carlos Batista Ávila at the Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo, and with the North Americans Steven Rings, Timothy Johnson, Miles D Barford, and Eddy Goldz. He concluded his studies with Roberto Hugo (Uruguay).

Victor Castro holds a degree in Music from the Universidade Federal do Maranhão – Brazil and a Master's degree in Performance from the University of Aveiro – Portugal.

He participated in the masterclasses of renowned guitarists such as David Russell (Scotland), Ana Vidovic (Croatia), Marco Pereira (Brazil), and Fabio Zanon (Brazil). Besides this, he has recorded two albums. He has already performed concerts in Portugal, Spain, Germany, the United States, Argentina, and Brazil.


Some highlights from Victor Castro’s artistic career are the debut of works by several composers, including Timothy Jonhson (USA), Antero Ávila (PT), Thomas Kupsch (GER), Ubiratan Sousa (BRA); the concert of the "10 de Junho" celebrations for His Excellency the President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio; guest of the Ciclo de Guitarra da Secretaria da Cultura de Coimbra and the Festival Internacional Francisco Lacerda; integrated as part of the guitar work of Lopes-Graça in concert in the Auditorium of the SPA, Lisbon.

In 2010, he was honored in Lisbon by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which awarded him the “Prémio Talento 2009” hosted by the fado singer Camané.

During eight years Victor Castro taught classical guitar at the Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo (Portugal). In São Luís - Maranhão - Brazil, he worked as professor and coordinator of the classical guitar course at the Escola de Música do Estado do Maranhão and as a Classical Guitar teacher at UEMA ((Universidade Estadual do Maranhão) State University of Maranhão). Currently, he teaches classes and masterclasses, dividing his time between solo and joint performances.
