Since 2024 we have been fighting for justice and better working conditions at DCI, so that staff can best serve our students and community.
We spent the 2024-2025 school year negotiating with management for our first contract. On July 24th, 2025 (one year to the day) we reached a tentative agreement with management on our first contract and our bargaining unit ratified our first contract on August 4th.
The DCISCU is continuing to negotiate with management on several critical issues - including compensation for SY 26-27 and the process/policies for timekeeping for excempt staff.
The DCISU is here to serve all staff at DCI.
Here are some of the things our union won for staff in our first contract:
The end of at-will employement, after two years of service, and the creation of a progressive discipline system
Raises for our lowest paid staff
Smoothing out “ghost steps” in the teacher pay scale
Protected planning time for teachers
Expanded off-site planning time
You can find a summary of our wins and continued areas of improvement & negotiation with management here. You can find the full text here.

Zach Diamond: High School Media Production
I support our union because I believe that staff should have a say in how our school is run. Too many excellent teachers and staff members have left due to poor management.
Zain Shariff: High School History
I believe that the only way for our students to thrive is for the staff that serves them to thrive. DCI’s teachers and staff are extraordinary folks who are extremely knowledgeable and deeply invested in our students’ and school’s success. We are the front-line workers, and, when it comes to our students, nobody knows them and cares for them quite like we do. It is essential that we have a voice in decision making at DCI.
Dan Boudreaux: EE Specialist
I support our union because I want our non-supervisory staff to have an active voice in decision making for themselves and the students we serve. As a parent at DCI since the beginning, I have seen many versions of DCI and I look forward to this new DCI - made by us, for us! In solidarity, we will prevail!
Roy Rogers: High School History
I believe we need a contract at DCI because staff need the countervailing power to negotiate working conditions that truly serve us and our students. A contract will bring a stable, safe, and equitable school for ALL members of our community and allow us to serve our amazing students with the kindness, consistency, thoughtfulness they deserve.
