Welcome to Financial Literacy Program
Established in 1986, The Philadelphia Writing Project (PhilWP), located at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, is a site of the National Writing Project. PhilWP’s mission is to enhance the teaching of writing and use it as a tool to advance students’ literacy learning, K-16, across all content areas and to support youth inquiry and leadership both in and outside of the classroom. Over the past 35 years, PhilWP has offered year-round literacy professional development, writing-intensive institutes for teachers and youth, and out-of-school time programming focused on college and career readiness for practitioners and youth.
PhilWP collaborates with Banksgiving and SriiiConsulting to deliver a Financial Literacy Program for Delaware County out-of-school youth.
This program helps youth track their personal, career, and financial goals.
Youth learn about the contributing factors of the wealth gap, develop passion projects, and go through a design process from brainstorming, to prototyping, to execution of practical career and financial plans.
Youth participate in hands-on presentations and workshops designed and delivered in collaboration with Banksgiving and SriiiConsulting on various topics from financial goal setting to entrepreneurship and careers.
One-on-one and small group coaching and mentoring, provided by Banksgiving and SriiiConsulting will be available to youth in virtual settings.
The program will culminate with youth presenting their passion projects, including establishing budgets and bank accounts to save and invest for their future project
