      • 1 - 2 coaches per team (additional mentors are always welcomed and appreciated)

      • Gracious professionalism - parents of students who do not follow these guidelines will be required to attend till the student shows these skills.

      • Registering and following the new yearly theme out out by FIRST

      • End of season expo where students present everything they have done

Block PRogramming

Students will program in blocks. They will drag blocks from the bottom of the screen and connect them to make things move. Students will be encouraged to try different things and see what happens to learn about programming.

Coaches do not need any prior experience, and can get help from the DCE Lego Robotics coordinator.

The software is found at https://education.lego.com/en-us/downloads/wedo-2/software

Information about each block can be found here.

Season Guides

Each year the teams registration covers 6 student workbooks and 2 coaches guides. These outline what to do at each session, and will keep teams on pace for being ready to show what they learned during the expo.

Coach & Mentors

No prior experience is required for being a coach. You do not need to know how to program, build Lego sets, or have any experience with robotics.

The coach guide (pictured below) outlines what can be done in each session. As you become more comfortable in your role as coach, you can always focus more on developing the skills your team needs most.

Younger grades, like kinder and 1st, do not need to record everything in their notebooks, but may still enjoy drawing the pictures. Older grades may also expand past the minimum requirements, and the robotics coordinator can help with that.

Supporting Students

Students may be working on these books during club time or at home. Please talk with students about their experiences at home. This will help them learn how to articulate what they are learning, and ultimately help them when they present at the end of season expo.
